Steve Duckor's Barber Half Set

DrPeteDrPete Posts: 1,497 ✭✭✭
Dr. Steve Duckor's monumental barber half set will be going to auction at the ANA in Boston. Take a look at the set on the registry site; for the first time the entire set is imaged and it is beautiful. You will be amazed!

Loved the 05 too. Just outstanding.

It will be interesting to see what prices they bring in the current economy.

For example, the 1896 0 sold for 51,750 at the Baltimore 2008 ANA Heritage sale. I believe the same coin resold in the April 2009 CSNS sale for 28,750 .

    Thats a big difference.image

I feel the whole set will do extremely well.

The link below was also just for the date set not the whole collection.

I'm also curious to find out. I bet he'll do quite well considering he has so many top pop coins.
I don't see any barber set like this being put together again. image

    Magnificent collection.

Who says that Barber coinage is ugly???????????????????

The coins in this collection are "fine art", no doubt.

The best of such a tough series. I agree they'll do extremely well, and rightfully so. Guy's got a great eye...

(Edited to add, the provenance is equally amazing.)

I saw the set a few years ago at Long Beach. What many people don't realize is that the average MS 65 in this series is ugly, and NOT something that a collector would admit to owning.

They often look like Jack the Ripper had a go at Miss Liberty's neck, and I saw a 1907 P with what appeared to be a Hitler moustache slabbed in an MS 65 holder. Many of them have the infamous toilet bowl toning....I'll leave it at that, I don't want to get too graphic. Most of the ones I've seen were so ugly, that I was tempted to wear gloves when looking at them, in case one tried to bite me.

I looked a good four years before I found one acceptable for my type set.

Despite the above, Dr. Duckor's registry set of these coins is truly amazing. The only problem is that after seeing these beauties, you will be even more grossed-out and disgusted by the Barber Halves you will see offered to you elsewhere.
