Just wanted to see what you guys thought. If Stephen Strasburg played in another market ( New York, Chicago, Los Angeles) would his card be more valuable? Just wondering.
If he was a spankee the hype would have been even bigger (hard to imagine) but I think the media would have been harder there as nothing compares to NY spotlight, DC is not even close to the same.
<< <i>Is there a bigger market than the Nations Capital? >>
Really? Since when has DC been a large baseball market? They are 13th in average attendance this season out of 16 National League teams. That Yankees average attendance has been double the Nationals the last 2 years.
Don't see how anyone believes the hype or price of his cards would be the same if he was in a Yankees uniform.
well, we'd get a buncha nutty guys in the right field upper deck painting the letters of his name on their bare chests.
we'd get rumors of him dating Madonna, clubbing with Miley Cyrus, hot-tubbing with the cast of Entourage, or just walking the streets of Manhattan at midnight, looking misersable.
and yes, his cards would be more valuable.
and in a few short years, we may all have a chance to find out.
Is that legal yet? Kind of like Michelle Wie. Had to wait until she was 18 to say she was hot without it being creepy. >>
I didn't realize anyone thought Michelle Wie was hot. I certainly don't. And I doubt Miley Cyrus will be hot when she's 18. She has that problem where when she smiles, its 95% gums and 5% teeth. I don't know the term is for that, but its not hot.
I'm sure we'll get to find out how being a Yankee impacts the value of his cards at some point......
Edited to add: I do think there would be a lot more Strasburg hype, and his cards would be even hotter, if he were a Yankee or Red Sox player now. If he were playing in LA or Chicago now, I doubt it would make much of a difference.
