What does a Fuzzy Bear do after he sells all of his coin collection?

BearBear Posts: 18,953 ✭✭✭
Why, I start a collection for my son.Based upon my long coin career
of overpaying for over graded coins and making every mistake in the
book, how will I use this wonderful experience of my collecting ,to build
a collection for my youngest Bear Cub?

Why collecting the key coins of the Barber Half Dollar Series in VF condition.image

You'll feel better if you teach him every expensive lesson you've ever learned and then watch him make them all over again.

Get him interested in something that allows him to take care of his old bear dad.

The Barber half series is quite long, even though there are no real stoppers (ignoring varieties). There is potential upside in VF30-35 coins, due to the fact that EF+ coins are pricing many collectors out of the series.

I completed a full set (minus the micro-O) years ago in ChAU, and sold it too soon. But....it was a BEAR of a set to work on--takes exceptional patience, and forget about the accuracy of pricing guides for eye-appealing coins.

I manage money. I earn money. I save money .
I give away money. I collect money.

To set my son up in his own business. It gives Mrs Bear and I
a greater deal of pleasure in seeing him succeed, then in looking
at lovely coins. In peoples lives, priorities change.

    Mr Bear Sir,

You just have to start some kind of collection for yourself to feel normal again.
You can't just go cold turkey.

  • You're never too old to start all over again !! This time, a little "wiser old bear". I suggest an MS 20th century type set since you are well versed in all the pitfalls. image

    Hey Bear,
Hope the cub does well with the desserts of your hobby. It is a special thing to be able to give. Even better if it is well spent.
I hope this sale does not lessen your passion for numismatics. The wisdom you've gained and the humor with which it is offered needs to be shared on the forum

Pick a coin that particularly appeals to you, because of beauty, history (yours or otherwise), theme (i.e. bears) or some other particular and work on that project - just do not stop posting, we enjoy and value your inputs and humor. Cheers, RickO
  • I think Bear went of the wild life preserve selling off his collection but I respect your right to do so image

Well, I still have an amazing collection of So Called Dollars and Halves.
That should be ample enough to keep me busy.image

Now there's a thought. There is no reference book on So-Called Half Dollars. Maybe Bear and some similar minds on this Forum can do something about that! (I would be a happy purchaser of such a book!)

The nice thing about tokens and medals is that they are so damn cheap it's
very difficult to lose more than half a dollar or a dollar on most of them. The
bad thing is they are quite addictive. Specializing is a good thing so you're
    already ahead of the game.

Of course you can lose a little more money on so called dollars if you try to. image

    Good luck.
