You're only partially right. You are absolutely allowed to say you don't like it without being called stupid and shallow, unless the reasons you give for disliking it are.. well... stupid and shallow. And saying 'to me it just looks like grown men kicking grass' is a.. wait for it.. stupid and shallow thing to say, as is 'it's a sport for people who can't play real sports', or any other such related nonsense.
To borrow from Bill Mahar, 'If you're sick of having an inferiority complex then quit doing things that other people consider to be inferior'.
As for the rest of the world liking it, I could give a rat's azz. I despise soccer and think that is just a bunch of grown men kicking grass. If that is what you like then fine, but I prefer real sports.
Archived. I may bring it out next time there is a thread about "real sports" like Nascar started by some neck from 'bama.
No need to archive LA, I'm not one to edit my comments unless there is a grotesque spelling error.
BTW, this 'neck from 'bama is a NASCAR fan and I proudly state that. If your not, fine, I could give a rat's azz again. Just to add to your stereotype, last thursday I went and watched Skynard in B'ham and loved it!
<< <i>So it is 'rational' to go on an anti-soccer thread to try to convince us that we are all wrong? >>
I'm not trying to convince you you're wrong, just trying to maybe encourage people to have an open mind regarding the sport and give it a shot. If you look back you'll see that I never really ventured far beyond that. I never gave reasons why soccer is better or why you should like soccer and even said that everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I can understand how soccer is boring and I have friends that can't stand the sport...no sweat off my back. I also stated that I'm not a soccer fanatic but enjoy and RESPECT the game. The only part of this thread I had a problem with is when it was basically called a sport for failures and people that aren't capable of playing other sports....which is completely untrue.
I find it somewhat ironic that anyone who watches Nascar can claim that soccer is not a legitimate sport..

What we have here is a "I dislike soccer thread" and all of the soccer lovers come here to state their opinion, thats fine, but don't get your panties in such a wad when we say that your full of it and disagree.

BTW, my seven year old daughter plays soccer and I do not feel compelled to state her 40 time to make me look better.

CrimsonTider- You totally missed the point of my original post. My son is a competitive soccer player. Many prior posts-yours included-implied or stated that soccer players weren't real athletes and that soccer is not a real sport. I stated a couple of facts about my son's athletic ability as evidence to the contrary. Trust me, I'm not insecure enough to feel the need to post anything on a internet message board in a attempt to make me look better or to solicit some sort of "wow factor" with the members of the forum. Just stating some facts-do with them what you will.
To answer your question as to how I can be a soccer fanatic and still collect football cards: I have been a lifelong fan of football - I played through High School and have a great love for the game. It has, and always will be, my favorite sport. My appreciation for soccer has evolved along with that of my son's playing experience. At one point I had a son playing bunch ball aka seven year olds playing soccer. I didn’t know squat about the game but I enjoyed watching my son play. As the years went by both his level of skill and my understanding of the game grew. I find myself 10 years later being very much able to appreciate and respect the beauty of 0-0 draw that some matches bring - Just like I can appreciate a 1-0 baseball game. That being said, I hope that, if nothing else, you and all those who misunderstand the game can at least learn to respect it and those who play it for what it is: Athletes competing in their chosen event as a way to test their skill and character.
Hobart, nothing wrong with your appreciation for the game of soccer, but when you make such posts on what is obviously an anti-soccer thread, you will most likely get some disagreement.
BTW, best of luck with your son's soccer career and may he advance far.
That was as dramatic a goal or score as any you'll see in any sport...
Congrats USA!!!

Get over it, soccer is not that popular in the US and never will be.

Go look in the full length mirror at yourself and ask "why it is the most popular sport in the world, but not here in the US"?

I never claimed that Nascar was a sport. I also watch 'Rock of Love', is there any irony there too?
However, if soccer had 15 car pile ups at 200mph, I'd probably watch it.
