logistics for Baltimore Whitman show
I just got permission from the wife to head to the upcomming Baltimore show. Had to agree to spend the weekend with her brother in DC, but
should be worth the trade.
Need to figure out a few things:
First we are flying into Washington DC and staying in Silver Spring Maryland (near DC). I was hoping to take the metro and train to get to Baltimore
anyone know if this is possible? and how long I should plan on this trip taking
Second, I will be arriving Thurs morning. Would it be better to attend this show Thurs afternoon for the few hrs it is open, or should I attend all day Fri instead
Thanks for any help

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Taking public transportation from Silverspring:
1) Get to Metro, take Red Line towars Shade Grove, but get off at Fort Totten.
2) Once at Fort Totten, get off and transfer to Green Line towards Greenbelt.
3) Once on Green Line, get off at College Park (2nd to last stop). This is where you will pick up the MARC train. Metro web site says to allow 30 minutes for this part of you journey.
4) Take the MARC train, Camden Line to Camden Yards (last stop). Schedule says MARC train gets to College Park at 8:16AM.
5) Ride MARC train to Camden Yards. Convention Center is right across the train tracks and street. Entrance to the show is about a block and half away but you can't miss the building.
MARC train gets you there about 45 minutes before the show, but it is the last North Bound train for the day.

I have attended every Baltimore convention since 2001 and on most trips I will spend the weekend visiting friends and sightseeing in D.C. Although I do not own property in the area nor live there full time, I know that area very well.
From Silver Spring you will need to take the Metrorail Red Line to Union Station. At Union Station you will take a MARC train or an Amtrak Northeast corridor train. The MARC trains will stop at the Baltimore Camden station which is one short block from the convention center. Be advised that MARC trains only operate on weekdays. Amtrak stops at the Baltimore Penn Station, a few miles north of the Inner Harbor. From Penn Station you can take the Baltimore light rail to the convention center. A taxi will cost about $8 - $10.
The show opens to the public at 2pm on Thursday. Which day you should attend will depend on how badly you want first shot at the coins.

the area is better. they've revitalized and the area around it looks a lot better. It's still urban-suburban DC, the big story now for the system in general is rowdy kids... (besides the train accidents)

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Downtown Silver Spring has been revitalized very nicely...Discovery Channel built its headquarters there, and nice shops and restaurants followed.
And, of course, the highlight for us is Julian's shop...
