I guess the Chinese die sinker mess up on the top of the coin so they decided to make an off-center example instead. image The chances of having a REAL example of an 1856 Flyer with this error are slim and none.

Another piece of Chinese garbage. image

PS He didn't get the date right either. image

On Jun-06-10 at 08:19:27 PDT, seller added the following information:*I only can promise what you see is what you'll get. Please make your own verify for this item. If you not sure, please don't bid.

Ok well reported this yesterday and now he has added this quote so i guess that makes it alright to sell on ebay image

And the chance it ended up in Singapore with some Schlep who knows nothing about coins is even more remote.

As a tangent, there is a known uncentered broadstrike 1856 flying eagle, not Chinese.

None the less - it's almost worth the $30 bid just to have the fun of showing it around for a while.

    Almost.

Shopping for coins in Singapore is really fun, by the way. I've gone through there a bunch of times on business travel and always make a point to stop in at "The Arcade" , "Change Alley", and "The Adelphi". One Sunday I landed there on my way to Penang, and they were having a big coin show at "Raffles City". I was in heaven! I have a side specialty of Singapore/Straits Settlements/ British North Borneo/Sarawak/Malaysia/Penang coins because of the excellent shops and availability in Singapore and Penang. I would never buy US coins from one of those guys, and in fact several of them warned me not to as far back as 1993. They won't sell a counterfeit "local" coin but no problem selling counterfeit foreign...

I imagine they have some pretty strict laws against counterfeiting of their own coinage. They are not shy about imposing the death penalty.
