Did anybody go to see "Shrek IV" while in Long Beach?
What other shows are playing there?

I spent one afternoon at LB (Friday).

The dealers I spoke to reported having good Thursday's and felt this LB show was superior to those in the recent past.

Friday afternoon seemed a little soft (to me at least).

I intended to scour the floor but ended up socializing most of the day. Spent some quality time with my mentor/tutor Gregg Bingham (aka monsterman) as well as Larry Shepherd. I'm grateful to know them.

Fortunately I was able to spend some one on one time with the CRO Boys on and off the bourse. I apologize to John for hypnotizing him with one of my stories. He almost feel asleep and drowned in his drink.
Dave and John are gracious and wonderful folks and their taste in coins for inventory speak for themselves. My fav's were the Fugio restrike in silver and a Flavia Fav sized toned French coin from 1790ish that spoke to me like Morticia did to Gomez on the Addams Family.

Saw the following board folks once again- BluVette62, Mustang GT and Wei. Todd does seem to goof off a lot as previous reported by others. Somehow he did find some time tp shoot some amazing coins and Todd is truly talented. While at Todd's table I was able to chat up Charmy. It was a pleasure to meet her and her copper rocks.

Even though we have spoken a lot on the phone I meet up (Lloyd) with Bestclsr1 for the first time. I was able to view a box of twenty of his Morgans. They were very rusty but the TPG's felt compelled to give them very high gradesimage. Each coin was spectacular in it's own right. LC, thank you for sharing.

As far as coins go the highlight of the show for me was viewing the Cardinal Collection that was on display. Truly works of art and history. I was shaking at one point. Cardinal, thank you for sharing your wonderful and glorious collection.

There was also a celebrity sighting as well.......I saw BNB stroll byimage.....I tried to arrange a Jamie Hernandez and BNB interview but was not able to pull off the event of the century.

No coins purchased at the show for me but I had a GREAT TIME never the less...............MJ

I got a speeding ticket driving down from San Jose image and didn't find some high end coins that I was looking for. However, I was able to purchase some decent world coins, and talked to a few cute girls at the show; in the end, good show for me image

I was really excited to see the Cardinal early cent collection w/ the gem Chain Cent and the MS69BN wreath cent, but by the time I made it to the display around noon today there were no coins to be seen... not sure it was even on display at all today image

I did see a killer 1794 type set from the Cardinal Collection that was still there however, so not a complete loss.

Had a great time at the show, bought a ton, sold a few. Was about as busy as I've ever seen a Saturday at Long Beach in the past few years.

This Long Beach show wasn't bad, Thursday was packed and busy (I heard the line to get in when the show opened was quite long and wrapped around the hallway), Friday was slow and sluggish, and today was steady. Overall, I had some great sales, bought lots of new material, sold a nice MPL and also bought another gorgeous 1909 MPL. I had taken the month of May off with no shows, and I actually missed seeing some of my dealer and customer buddies so it was great seeing them, having dinner and wine together - Rick, Karin, Brian, Todd, Roger, and several others. I also brought my bluish green 1894/94 Indian cent for Todd to photograph and was able to show it off in hand to several people. I also brought more Conder tokens for Todd to photograph. I even found a really nice 1858 SL Flying Eagle for my personal collection.

I always enjoy the Long Beach show since I have many local regulars that stop by, chat, peruse, and buy some of my coins. Got to see several forum members - besides those mentioned above, ChrisRX, renomedphys, Justacommem, PonyExpress, PQPeace, Illini, and even BNB (and a few others that I can't think of right now, please forgive me). A couple members stopped by and asked about my wine but I was swamped at the time they were there and hadn't even opened a bottle yet, so I apologize and hope they try again!

Almost forgot to mention, I submitted the 1914-D that's in my signature line to PCGS for SecurePlus (I had previously crossed it from the NGC holder you see in the photo to PCGS) - can't wait to see what they do!

    My ramble....

Drove up from the bay area on Wednesday and it was smooth sailing until just before the I-5 and the 710. I got semi-lost but figured it out.

Ordered room service and brought some of my own Sirah. The room had a nice view up on the 15th floor but the room seemed a little too small. It was still sufficient as I just take an elevator down then walk across to the convention center right next door (I dig convenience!)

Walked around the busy floor and finally got to meet Brian Wagner, Rick Snow, the gentlemen at CRO, and some fellow forum members some I have met before and some I have not. Also chatted it up with Andy Skrabs, Certified assets were nice to deal with, and Todd helped plenty when I got lost!

It was DEFINITELY nice to go to the "viewing room" to look at coins before bidding. There were only a few that I had my eye on and I ended up losing on them as they went for too much in my opinion so I let em go. There was one lot in particular that I really liked and apparently many others did because it went for "moon money!"

Tired, walked back to the hotel room.... room service and the view is nice at night as they light up different areas.

I got to drive around the town just a little bit to familiarize myself with it.

From all the dealers I asked "how's business" they all said "great!" so I was happy to hear that but unhappy that I could not snag a few nice coins for a decent price image

I only attended most of the first session and it was exciting to sit in that room to see some people paying strong money and there were only a couple "bidiots" (all online bids at that.) Yes I sat through a few hours only to bid on 3 items but I still had a great time being there "live."

Dealers were not buying too much but consignments were going on including myself. I had a few odds and ends I was looking to sell and I felt like I asked every dealer there and none were interested until what seems like the LAST dealer and they offered fair money for them... just my luck I did not go to them first.

Got to see the Cardinal collection and the Naftzger MS69 cent was just amazing.

All in all I had a nice time and would have a nicer time if I brought more money and if the auction had a few more coins I would be interested in.

p.s. Aww man why didn't anyone let me know BNB was walkin around? Did anyone get his autograph? Heh.

    Edited to add:

Apparently Charmy does not like to drink wine in the early afternoon. Sheesh! image

Ahemmm, Chris, in my book 11am is not quite "early afternoon" image- and unless it's a bloody mary or kaluha in my coffee, to me alcohol, especially wine, just isn't very appealing until at least after lunch!!!

Spent most of the morning Thursday setting up my educational exhibit entitled "Bank of China The Braille Notes" next to the LB Coin Club booth #1248. The clubs had a total of 2 YN's exhibits, 3 foreign, & 3 US displays. Left the show approx. 2pm. Took the entire Friday off to be somewhere else... Spent the entire Saturday back at the show, with family. My 3 year old daughter had a kool time at the YN treasure hunt. She took home lots of really kool freebees including a 50 Trillion dollar Zimbabwe bank note graded by PMG (sample), a PCGS sample Jeff buffalo nickel, NGC sample state quarter, proof set & lots of other coins/stamps... I also answered lots of questions from future would be collectors, & club members at our table during the day. Met up with Mike "Illini" who showed me his latest Heritage purchases, including a ultra kool $5 mint state PCGS Indian gold. Also met BNB, Wei "WTTG", Todd "bluvette", Roger "mustanggt", Charmy, Rick "eagle eye", Mr. Organic", and many others... All in all, had a fun time, & hope to see everyone on the next one. image

Great reports.... sounds like Long Beach was a success.... And what is wrong with wine in the morning? A nice Vinho Verde from Portugal tops off breakfast very nicely. image Cheers, RickO

    Hello illini420,

I'm sorry you weren't able to see the copper set.image For security reasons, it could only be on display for Thursday and Friday. With many thanks to Bowers & Merena and CFC as co-sponsors, and especially Greg Roberts, Catherine Canuti, Ian Russell, Brian Kendrella, and the ever-vigilant security team, the display was a great success. Plans are already underway for future displays of the set, so hopefully you will have an opportunity to view it at an upcoming show.

While nothing is quite the same as seeing the actual coins in person, these were the coins on display. A subset of the overall collection, there were 27 coins on display, covering colonial issues, half cents and large cents:

Good reports, I was great to get a chance to talk to many of the forum members who stopped by the BLUCC Photos table.

The show seems busier than the last couple and didn't have the deserted feel in the afternoon. There was still foot traffic late into the afternoon on Thursday and Friday.

Unfortuantely I didn't find much to buy but did sell ok.
