The Most Difficult Sub-Set I Ever Put Together

It took me almost five years to find the coins to put this set together. The 51 set has been up-graded since I completed the set. Sorry for the poor pictures.

Nice work, I bet the coins look great in hand. Was there a theme to the set as far as grade or overall look?

No, they were hard to find and basically took what I could get. The last two were the 53-P and the 54-D. If you look the numbers are consecutive on those two. I broke out a couple of 64's and resubmitted them and both came back as 65's. Now on the Booker T Washington coins which were easier to find I tried to keep a theme. Didn't want the ones that had porosity on the cheek. and for the most part white coins except for the 46 set. Most 46 sets are toned. But, the Carver Washington's were one tough set to round up.

Let me expand on this a moment. Yes I was looking for the nicest coins I could find for the money. Several times I found found coins that regardless of the grade, I wouldnt buy. They just didn't fit my idea of what I wanted. Too many marks or scratches to suit my taste.

I would say that is a set in and of itself, not a subset. Congradulations on a job well done!

Actually I need two coins to finish my second Booker T. Washington set. Unfortunately both are 47's. The P and the D I think, I'd have to look.

I have approximately five coins to the Oregon set. I hope to get there.

A beautiful coin Lee. That one has been laid up among the records in the archives of an album or board for a while by someone.

I put together the 144 Complete Set of Early Commems in 65

and the LAST one I found was the 1953-D Washington Carver.

Your set looks very evenly matched and all creamy white. Great job image

Nice job! I only have 3 W-Cs. It is hard to find nice ones.

I actually just purchased a 47 BTW recently but I still need about 9 more. I need one more of the Oregons. Good luck with your sets!
