I have a question....poll inside.

A while back I bought an 1882-S Morgan dollar in an old David Hall Numismatic Group flip from the 1980's. Below is a link to that thread. My question is....If you had a choice between having this 1882-S Morgan in an early David Hall Numis. Group MS65 flip or in a brand new PCGS MS65 slab, which would you choose?

If you are happy with the grade and plan on keeping the coin, keep it in the david hall flip.

If you were to sell it I think the possibility of a 66 would merit submitting it to be in a PCGS slab. Except for a few select potential bidders most would prefer it in a slab in my opinion.

Not sure i'm happy with the grade. I dont htink CAC will sticker it, either. Not that that matters. I have no CACs yet and dont plan on it in the future.

Send it to PCGS, only way you will know what you have.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.
  • not really worth the slabbing cost is it?

Could send it in without the flip and see if the graders agree with Davids grading. image

Mozin --- that has got to be one of the most absurd things I have ever seen posted on this forum...

Even if this is their home turf... I still consider that statement absolutely absurd...

Yet... with an avatar like yours, such "proclamations" should be expected imageimage
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

There is no 'Who cares' slot to vote ...... If you collect coins (not slabs), if you enjoy coins (not grades), then it really does not matter. Of course, if you are in it to profit, then I cannot offer an opinion. Cheers, RickO

It does matter. You can collect coins however you want, and house them however you want. Their your coins.

    Which coin is nicer?

Actually, if my cost is the same, I'd choose HRH flip, then sell it to someone for 66+ money and go buy a nice 66 in current plastic.
