May 29, 2010 - 3 Silvers today!

Man, it's has been 18 days since my last detecting outing. Finally got out today for about 3 1/2 hours.

After 20 minutes I got an odd signal... out popped what looked like a gold earring!!! YES!! Checked it out when I got home but it's gold plated sterling (it tested sterling). A little bit of a bummer, but I'll take silver.

About an hour later after digging several clad quarters, I get a signal for a quarter at about 2 inches... "Alright, another clad quarter... I'll just rummage around with my hands when the plug is dug." So I get the plug out and roam around... "I feel it, it's a quarter... oops, my hands slipped over it a little. Who cares, it's just clad. Wait, it's silver color, uh oh, no, yes, no yes...it's silver!" But I scratched it with my fingers, a bit of a bummer as it looks a little higher grade. It's 1945.

Another hour passes and another quarter signal comes up... out pops a 1943 Australia Shilling. Quite a surprise. Looking online, looks like it's actually 92.5% silver. I also learned that some of these were actually minted in San Francisco, but there's no "S" mint mark on this one.

Also picked up a gold plated ring with "Love" written on the top, a 1987 $500 pesos Mexican coin - which apparently has a U.S. value of about 4 cents. One final "neat" thing is what looks like some sort of buckle. Could it be a suspenders buckle? It has a "K" on it.

I think the pinpointer is off on my eTrac, because sometimes my generous plugs didn't have the object in them or the hole. I think I may need to send it back to Minelab for servicing, but I don't want to do it during detecting season. Any suggestions to try tinkering with it? I can try a "master reboot" and am tempted to give it a shot...

I plan on going back to the same place tomorrow, so hopefully some more goodies will show! Happy Hunting all
