Send my 1864 H10c in for upgrade?

This 1864 H10c is one of the best pieces in my entire collection. It's presently PCGS MS66. I personally think it has claims to MS67, as there are no hairlines in the fields and the luster is unbelievable- the best I have seen on any H10c. One of the few PCGS MS67 coins for this date is for sale right now at David Lawrence RC. The most significant difference seems to be the extensive clash marks on my coin (and the toning on my coin, which is quite vibrantly colored in-hand, especially under the date). Both coins have a couple of tiny ticks scattered about the drapery. What do you say- should my coin be re-submitted for an upgrade? Was this coin held back by the clash marks? Have a look at the MS67 before you answer, if you don't mind (but I won't link it here because it belongs to someone else).

with the clash. Can't tell how much luster is on the 67. Strike seems the same.
Keep yours as a 66.

Anyway, I really like your coin, and I'm not sure about the 67. About all I can tell is that the 67 has fewer ticks along the front edge of Liberty's left leg than yours, as well it should. The "tic count" differential between the two coins should keep them at different grade levels, so I don't see yours in a 67 holder. I like the color of yours better, and can only assume that the luster on the 67 is outstanding based on the number, but not the picture. Strike is the same on both coins. The clash marks are the same on the 67, and don't show up as well because of the scanner. They don't affect the grade and would only negatively affect the sale of the coin to a type set builder who may prefer something from more pristine dies.

both of rhedden's images are the same coin. You have to go to the DLRC site to see the MS 67 coin

No.
You know, the 1864 Half Dime was listed as a Proof only issue for many years. About 1976 I was able to convince Ken Bressett that the 48,000 business strike mintage is correct.

Aha! LOL ! That's funny
<< <i>I don't think the clash marks will negatively impact the grade in the least. But your coin does look to have a number of obverse ticks, which I think would keep it out of a 67 holder. By the way, I purposely did not look at the other coin you mentioned, as what I think of it wouldn't impact what I think of yours. >>
+1 Really like your coin but it looks to come up just a tick mark or two from an MS67 according to my grading standards.
