How would this be graded? (Photo inside) & anyone want to buy it?

image

You see near and along the edge of the back of the card..... can you guys tell me how that will affect the grade? Note: This is a USFL Steve Young that came straight out of the usfl set box like that and the front looks fine. (Also is anyone interested in buying it).
Thanks for your help everyone.

Considered a crease. It would grade a 5.

I have one in a PSA 8 holder. I can't remember which one but I noticed it when checking for cards to try to bump. I believe someone just missed it and PSA 5 is close to being right on the mark.

I respectfully disagree with the 5 and crease, no clue what it would grade without seeing the entire card.

It would be considered a "wrinkle" and grade as a PSA 5.

love this one, i've had a variety of results with cards just like it........

that wrinkle on the back may or may not be subjected to greater scrutiny depending on its appearance to the naked eye.....i had resisted sending in cards like this for grading for a long time, but a funny thing happened to them on the way back to my raw collection.

last year, through the various purchases of high grade cards, including some from members of this board (and i do not need to out anyone because i have no gripes about it), i observed a distinct and notable fact......that "crease" or "wrinkle" you see on the back of the card is a result of factory production and not mishandling.....not sure if this is an aspect of the overall grading theory, but i do know that i own not one, but several examples of cards with that raised area on the back which are now in PSA 7, 8 & even 9 holders.....i think it's an eye appeal thing and the given date that card winds up in the grading room.

but just to elaborate once again, it's not a crease, it's not a wrinkle.....it's a raised area. image

i would consider attempting to grade any card which has a chance, the worst that can happen is you get the 5.......and try again.

I concur with itzagoner. I've owned a few 1992 Bowman cards with similar issues, and each was in a PSA 9 holder.

The cut crease or bulge will not adversely hinder the grading of the card. It will typically keep an otherwise GEM MINT card in a MINT holder, but I have and have seen many cards with the cut crease/bulge in PSA 8 and PSA 9 holders. Those that suggest it is treated as a standard crease and state that it warrants a PSA 5 EX are off base on their assessment.

I think it would be a 6. Some of the 89 UD Griffey's have a very small wrinkle that occured at the factory, it is not as big as that one, and those Griffey's get 6's.

  • I believe my card would most likely get a psa 8 or 8.5 if the back isn't deducted. Worst case scenario is that psa gives me a psa 5 (even if I don't think it's a psa 5 since the factory made the bulge).

centering is a big problem with this card psa seems to grade this one mugh harder than the rest of the set. i subbed a few 84 usfl cards and got a 9 on the kelly and walker and only an 8 on the young. The corners, edges and surface were near perfect.. but the centering was slightly off... I also got a 9 oc on the reggie white and i thought the card was closer to 6. the centering was terrible, there were 2 ugly print dots on the white border on the front.. and there was a similar wrinkle on the back. prob one of the ugliest cards in a 9 holder.
