Why I will never like Derek Jeter

I grew up in Tampa,FL and I was a big Derek Jeter fan when he played for the Tampa Yankees. He was the only player on the team we had heard of and as a 12 year old in little league I idolized him. They used to play at the USF baseball field, before they built the replica Yankee Stadium across from the big sombrero. Me and my friends used to go behind the outfield fence and climb up on a wooden platform they had back there and watch the games. One day I got a home run ball by Mr. Jeter, we were the only ones back there and it was a wooded area so no one to fight with over the balls. I had quite a few balls from different players but the Jeter was my crown jewel. I tried in vain for the next few weeks to get him to sign it. All the other players would be around before and after the games to sign. There was easy access to everyone except Derek. One day we saw him running full speed towards the Sun Dome away from the other guys signing for the kids. Here I am lugging around that home run ball trying to get him to sign it for at least 5 games. A few days after we saw him running away from us he was sent up to A-Ball and I threw that ball away. This was a kid barely out of high school treating the kids like he was a 10 time MVP or something. OK I feel better now.

    Exactly.

Jeter's always kinda carried himself like he's better than everyone else, so I'm not surprised.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

Depending on how you keep score, you could argue that he is better than everyone else. Not too many guys can go through a Maxim Top 100 Hottest Women Mag and put a check mark next to all the ones they are interested in and have them on his arm a week later. And of course, he'll get like 3,700 hits and already has all those championships. Doesn't mean you have to like him of course. I don't.

He'll look back one day and realize he should have married the girl he loved instead of being the Maxim dude. There's actually nothing about the guy that I admire. Don't want his cards, never will.
