I'm bi coastal and we have a showroom on 6th and 56th. I find Stack's boorish but worth at least one visit. MJ

I did have a barely cooked rare burger ( how rare? Leave it with a good Vet and it'll get up and run from the table ) at Flanigans in Wellington ( no not that wellington ) last week. I think they said it was 10 oz's.
Stack's is just a block or two off the south end of Central Park. But if you had time for only one or the other, you'll probably get a lot more out of your run in Central Park than a visit to Stack's. As a visitor to Central Park, my times there have always been kind of magical. As a visitor to Stack's, I never got there during open hours. But plenty of members have posted here in previous threads that there wasn't much to see once they got inside anyway. Those members did say, though, that Stack's will let you look through what's on hand, if you have something specific you want. Tell me if I've told you something you didn't already know!
You should actually do both. Why not? Just don't go to that shop a few doors down or up depending on your way to Stacks...that shop that sells watches/coins and other memorabilias because in that shop when you buy/sell something to him it feels like you took a "bath".

I remember asking if they had paper money and the guy throwing me a stack of junk paper money. I left and went to Stacks, where I was treated a lot better.

I stayed in Manhattan when giving a teaching workshop last January. I had a blast running in the city (usually around 5 am) and was amazed at how alive the place was at that hour! I ran to and then through Central Park (not at 5 am!) and enjoyed it a lot. So...Stacks or a run in Central Park? That's easy...run in Central Park.
As an aside...it was funny to see a lot of the places I had only heard about on Law and Order!

A colleague is here from Peth, Australia, and will be in the Big City over the weekend. Perhaps you can take him to Stack's and show him the place!

Glad you didn't run at 5am as otherwise we might have seen you on Law and Order episode titled Double Dime Crime!

If I didn't know better, I'd think Longacre is trying to recruit Coinosaurus to be a minion.
I've visited Stacks twice. Both times the people watching was ten times better than the coin watching. I HIGHLY recommend a visit.
There seems to be a constant parade of rif and raf being buzzed in with insane assortments of junk coins, gold etc and the staff is brilliant at handling them. FUN to watch!

Sure, you could get mugged in Central Park, but that is not half as bad as getting Stacks'ed.

IMO
I think I will run around the Onassis reservoir in the park, and later walk over to Jackson Hole for my monthly burger

I was going to say that!
BTW, say hi to my daughter. She often runs in Central Park (starts in E. Village)
