Which TPG has tighter standards for grading Ike dollars?

Looking for some unbiased opinions and an explanation into why one feels that way. I will probably post this ATS and see what those folks say too.

No question, pcgs is tighter than ngc..... Just look at some of the prices at Heritage auctions. Pcgs will usually generate substantial premiums over ngc.... although this tighter grading may not always be present in reality, the public truly believes it.... and is willing to pay a premium....

I've received some surprising grades from PCGS and even more surprising grades from ANACS which IMO, is tighter on Silver IKEs than PCGS.
I've never submitted across the street.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Hmmm.. you must mean 'guidelines', not standards. Standards are something clearly defined and applied consistently. No TPG has standards. Cheers, RickO

I've noticed that NGC is much more forgiving when it comes to the dreaded "mint set packaging machine scrapes". Those scrapes are the kiss of death at PCGS, relegating many otherwise MS66 IKES to MS64.

NGC tends to ignore them if they are small.

I think the "old" ANACS was the tightest on top-grade moderns, but PCGS is also up there as well.

I have not seen many MS65 or MS66 IKEs in NGC holders that would cross to PCGS at the same grade.

I had a 1972 Type 1 in a PCGS MS65 holder and I cracked it out and it came back MS64 by NGC.

IMO PCGS tends to be very loose on the PR69DCAM Ike's.

That is only one coin. Show me ten MS65/66 clad IKES and I will be willing to bet at least 8 of them will not cross to PCGS.

I have crossed only (1) out of (4) 72-P Type 3 NGC MS 66's into a PCGS holder. It is an exceptionally nice coin!image
