MSN's top 2 headline news events are:
#1...Miss America photo scandal, a year later!
#2...Iron Man vs. Spiderman
Wow! I remember just a week into our current president's administration, all the buzz and talk was not about the state of the economy, but rather on which type of dog the 1st family was going to pick. Has the country become so apathetic, so distracted as to not care about the real issues any longer?

With regard to the current maelstorm in the financial/investment markets. J6P is distracted and the media is part and parcel to this pulling of the wool ove the eyes.
Ironman 2, ipad etc. It is unfortunate, and sad.
I have used the analogy of the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor; when news of the successful attack reached his head quarters Yamamoto's junior officers cheered loudly. After the commotion died down Yamamoto said "Gentlemen I fear all we have done is kick a rabid dog". Later he wrote in his journal when he learned the declaration of war was delivered late "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping gaint and fill him with a terible resolve. I can think of nothing that would infuriate the americans more".
This country is wide awake and watching everything that is happening, and many are no longer silent about what they think. It will be a very interesting summer and fall. I personally can not wait for Christmas.
You know, I think in 1,000 years some forensic scientist might just happen along the electronic trail of this thread and wonder: "If all these people knew trouble was coming, why couldn't the world avoid it?" I think the conclusion will be some kind of mass-hypnosis...while we all know it's a flat denial to work hard for your pay, and expect entitlements for every aspect of your life.
Very sad...
<< <i>I hear you, Gecko. People are so lost they don't even know it! Sometimes the bill collector has to come calling and take everything before you wake up. But then again, sometimes that doesn't even work...very sad state of affairs.

The lessons of history show that even though technology and social situations change...Human nature
remains a constant.
A good example that I have sitting in front of me is Charles Mackay's book
"Extraordinary popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds"
When you read about John Law and The Mississippi Scheme,.. The South Sea Bubble,.. The Tulipomania etc.
You realize that what is happening today, is the echoes of history, are just playing out their rhyme.

Hah, funny! The author mentions comic books as a better "investment" than gold. Not knocking comics by any means as I know there are many collectors of that medium on the boards, but comparing a specific comic book's return (Superman #1) to gold in general is rediculous.
