Had some fun looking at other peoples coins last night.
Had an interesting fun time last night looking through 3 different family’s “old coins”. My wife belongs to a civic/social ladies club and while cleaning a house a few weeks back for Habitat for Humanity the subject of coins came up. So she invited three couples over for dinner last night so I could look at what they had and give them some advice. Of course, it’s the usual lots of hand me downs from parents and grandparents kept in small boxes, envelopes, old leather purses, soup cans, and a few old blue Whitman albums. And inside those rudimentary containers where the usual dateless buffalo nickels, worn V nickels, circulated common date Peace and Morgan Dollars and a few commemoratives and old bank notes.
I regret reporting no significant coins found other a nice VF 1868 Shield Nickel and the only shield in the group plus one seated quarter so none of the coins were earlier than say 1850.
But it was fun looking through those stashes hoping…..

I can relate to your experience. My friends and family members all know that I enjoy coins. So, eventually they all show me their old coins, or want me to sell their silver for them on Ebay. It's pretty much common inventory, but really fun to go through it, hoping to find a coin that really opens your eyes. The best find was an extra leaf Wisconsin quarter. Anyway, I really enjoy helping out, and get a real kick out of non-coin people talking coins.
