question about shipping a high dollar card

I just sold a $2000 card on ebay and after i send him an invoice, the buyer sends me an email asking if i would ship the card overnight at his expense. I told him i would check to see how much it is through USPS. Is this shipping method safe? I usually just send with sig conf and insurance.

Make SURE that you DO NOT check the "signature waiver"
box. You need the buyer - not the carrier - to sign for the
item.

Not when you calculate insurance on the package. Its almost a break even between priority with $2,000 insurance and Express with $2,000 insurance. The rate for insurance on the Express service is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than on priority or 1st class mail!
The reason I ask is because I had a Paypal case filed against me by a buyer claiming that I sent him a different card. I ended up winning, but it made me paranoid about high $$$ sales.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that
"buyers" are not trying to steal from you; they are.
None of the carriers noted offer contents-verification
for retail customers.

USPS Express Mail is an excellent service.

Outside of litigation, PayPal/EBAY generally consider such
docs to be meaningless.
Inside of litigation, PayPal/EBAY would attack such docs
as collateral evidence.
Such docs will be looked at by USPS inside of an insurance
claim, but they are not dispositive to any claim.
Such docs make some sellers feel good, but they really
safeguard nothing.

In the example, the notary attests that an "item" was sealed
in the envelope at some point in time.
Is the notary an expert as to what constitutes a genuine item?
Will/can the notary testify in person as to his expertise as it
applies to the item in question?
Did the notary accompany the sender to the carrier and witness
the sealed package being handed to the carrier?
Obviously, if we all hire lawyers to pack/ship our merch, their
live testimony will have great weight in litigation; but, even
their best written/oral tales to EBAY/PayPal will not tip the
scales.
"Witnesses" are a fun concept, but they just do not fly well in
EBAY/PayPal disputes.

It's always good to "mention" ALL possible safeguards.
The problem is, "good luck" is about the best safeguard.

I maybe going that route soon. Selling is not as fun as it used to be. I've been on ebay since 1998 and have over 3000 sale transactions with perfect feedback. I've always tried to do the right thing but each successive change in ebay policy/fees has made it more difficult.
On a % basis, guys like me probably pay the highest amount fees to the ebay/Paypal mafia. I know that small seller like me may not matter individually, but as a whole I have to believe we are a very profitable bunch to ebay.
