The images in this thread show a PCGS coin, and the BST images show a raw coin that doesn't look at all like the coin in this thread. Or am I seeing things?image >>

The BST thread is a new thread that was posted, not the original one from the transaction. The buyer posted to the thread and revealed himself there.
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

  • Ok, I may be new here and just know from what i read, but 42 days is kinda extreme. Plus, the OP isn't slinging mud, he's just asking a question and concerned about his reputation, as we all would be. I never saw any post (I may have missed a few) where the OP mentioned anyone's name.

My opinion? The OP did nothing wrong and I'd rather deal with his "type" than the other guy's "type".

<< <i>Well everyone. I appreciate you all taking my side I guess, but I've thought about it and I've decided that I'm going to offer waterzooey his money back on the coin. He isn't a bad guy, I have no hard feelings. I guess the lesson here could be for many of us, be sure to clearly state your terms so there will never be any confusion. >>

Now i'm on the buyers side.................................

What s classic movie. Isn't the line "I want my two dollars"
  • I'm reluctant to even bring this up, since the OP has graciously offered to refund waterzooey's $200 (for a nice-looking coin, BTW), but...

Holy cow! I searched for waterzooey's threads as another forum member recommended, and saw that he's been posting consistently for the past three months. He's giving us this sob story about why he wasn't available to even open his mail, but during the time he was supposedly occupied with life-and-death family commitments, he posted almost every single day without a single indication of anything that distracted him from coins.

For example, in late January, when he was "going back and forth to the hospitals for tests, evaluations etc etc etc," he posted questions about which coin shows he should attend, and then posted about attending the White Plains, NY show. He bought other coins on the BST, asked about bidding in at least one auction, posted pics of a sweet off-center Ike he found, and even offered it for sale on the BST. Shoot, on February 7th - two days before his wife's surgery - he posted a question about storing paper money, and on February 11th, he was back on the BST buying stuff.

Look, don't get me wrong, I have deep sympathy for the tragedies of my fellow man, but based on his own posts, a reasonable reader might question just how unavailable waterzooey really was. I call them as I see them, and this looks suspect to me.

Everyone has drama in their lives, surely a 2 minute peek at a new coin would be soothing.

A little off here But, i have rent property, over the years i have heard every story imaginable as to why they can not pay rent. 2 of the better ones were , I had the rent money until last night and i had to take my wife to the emergency room. I had to pay them 500 dollars UPFRONT. SO being the nice generous person i am, i listened contently and decieded that i would help the renters out, he stressed a few times they had to pay the 500 bucks. So i said i tell you what, (this is 12 hours after returning from the emergency room) Show me, or hand me the PAID emergency room bill right now and i will give you 2 months free rent. He dug around for a few minutes to no avail. I even told him i would be back in 1 hour or the hospital could fax me a copy of the paid bill. It never showed up. LOL

I know more than i ever wanted to know about hospital bills since i have dealt with my sons 12 years of brain cancer sugeries and treatments. I lot of good coin money went to docs and hospitals but that was money well spent.

    1) It's NOT a POS.
    2) It's PCGS certified, fer cryin' out loud.
    3) The time for buyer's remorse was five weeks ago.

Whining six weeks after the fact? Tsk, tsk.

Posting negative comments on somebody's BST thread? Whoah, Nellie. That's WAY outta line.

  • Did you agree to accept a return up to 6 weeks? If no, the buyer sounds like trouble. Asking for a return after a month is way out of line imo.

    Wow.

The whole cancer thing kind of reminds me of Godwin's Law... As much as that situation sucks (if true), most men I know would NEVER use that in an argument. You man up, and take your lumps.

Calling a coin a "POS" in a request to return it seems opposite of smart. Quite probably smoething RYK-ish like "The coin does not mesh with my current collecting goals" might not engender an immediate gut-punch emotional desire to tell the writer "pound sand".

There have been a few posters here in the past few years who have used sundry specious arguments and claims to special situations in order to justify their bad behaviour. Strangely, almost always a few members will do a little research and detective work, and the resultant dirty laundry winds up coming out into the sunlight.

For my money, I would think that I would have the fortitude to suck it up and dump the coin on eBay for whatever I could recover before I would complain here in front of my peers. Maybe that's just me.

    Here's a coin I just imaged:

  • I'm confused. The first post in this thread shows a slabbed 1831 quarter. The link to the BST commotion shows a raw 1833 quarter. Which coin are we talking about?

Either way, I reckon the time for returns had already elapsed. You win some, you lose some. Buyer was wrong to demand refund.
  • Hi there,

From what I read as it was presented (post above aside) I would say mmm.. "Absolutely. You was defintely in the right" - Pink Floyd, Money, 1973

You should read everything before posting then image
Speety says that he linked a CURRENT BST offering where the buyer was crapping on things to attack the seller. Same players, different coins.
The coin in question was posted in the thread already as well... PCGS plastic around it.
    Not too confusing image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

(this thread needs to spin around in that circle just one more time; that makes three. Three is a magic number.)

  • After that amount of time it's not reasonable for the buyer to request or expect to be able to return it. Simple solution SELL IT move on.

How long does it take to look at a coin and decide if you want it? Not long! Even under these conditions I side with the seller.

To be fair, all the dealers we like to bash around here have to put up with stuff like this for their job. Kind of make me feel sorry for them.

I remember the number one rule of sales-Buyers are Liars
