Want $133 million plus $20?

This is what the front of a U.S. Mint vault seal looked like in the 1940s-1970s.
Note the description of contents and the odd items found in the vault.

The back was attached to a band of heavy cotton with the US Mint name woven into the fabric. Hard wax seals fixed the band to the certificate and sealed the ends so that the vault could not be opened without destroying the seal or band.

Wonder if each of those signatures had to personally count the contents. image

Philadelphia had vaults A through F, and multiple storage areas (called "cages") within each. This vault happened to hold approximately 1/3 of the total silver dollars of the U.S. at the time of this seal.
  • cool. The vault held 50 unstruck dollar planchets and 3 dollar errors.

These later ones - for the 1950s and 60s - can be used to trace the drawdown of silver dollars during the coin shortage back then.
