Something special for Early Copper collectors

Here's something collectors of early U.S. coppers will appreciate. The information is not new, but few have seen the original coiner's record book.

  • That's pretty neat. Looks like someone did the math, and wrote the sum below in pencil (and got it wrong).

Wow. Is the document in the National Archives? That's where Breen got a lot of his data.

There is also a ledger and a copper account book from which a lot of information can be extracted. This work has, I believe, been fully explored by Bob Julian Walter Breen and other notable researchers. I just thought collectors might like to see an image or two.

(PS: The math is correct. The last digit in the first entry is an "8" not a "0.")

Were those "monetization of the currency" transactions? If so, maybe they were the very first ones? Pretty cool.

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
