It's his coin, he can do what he wants, but.....RESPONSE ADDED

AUandAGAUandAG Posts: 24,570 ✭✭✭✭✭
does it really add value to the dollars? Obviously AT and it should be disclosed. I
decided to ask this question to this seller:

Dear tinycompany,

If I purchased this dollar how would I remove your coloring? Is it water soluble? Would I have to dip it in a coin "cleaner"? Some of your dollars look like they would be good without that junk you put on them.
thanks and good luck,
bob

Wonder what my response will be.

image I like his attempt at making the reverse look more natural... however, if anyone thinks it is NOT doctored, I suggest they leave the coin collecting hobby. Cheers, RickO

I mostly agree with your sentiment but there is a small issue.

"Doctor" usually implies someone who knows what they are doing.

That coin was 'interned'. It is a casualty caused by someone studying to become a doctor.

Here's his response and ebay's response to my reporting of non disclosure.

    first Tiny's:

    "Dear bobandlinda1,

excuse me , sir, but appreciation for toned coins is a matter of aesthetics...surely it is not for everyone but the number of people who do have been on the rise...please be more respectful next time because it is only out of respect that i even replied....................allan
p.s....no, it is not water soluble..image

    - tinycompany"

    Now the ebay policeman:
    "Dear Bob,

Thank you for writing eBay to report this potentially violating listing
    to us.

I have thoroughly investigated your report, and have confirmed that the
item is not in violation of selling coins policies. As such, no action
has been taken on the item. As we do not have any evidence that these
coins are artificially toned we are unable to take action against them.
If you have any additional proof that the seller is not fully disclosing
the coins please send it to us for further review.

Please see the following page for eBay's policies regarding the sale of
    coins:
    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-coins.html

If you happen to see any listings you may feel violate our Coins and
Currency policies, please feel free to report them via the following
    link:

    http://www.ebay.com/ccw

Please note that ONLY Coins and Currency violations should be reported
here. Other types of violations sent here will be delayed as they are
    redirected to the appropriate department.

Please see the following page for eBay's policies regarding the sale of
    coins:
    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/selling-coins.html

    Thanks again for your report.

    Sincerely,

    Akira

Message: I have no problem with this seller artificially toning or
coloring his coins. He does it to all of them. However, since he's
altering the coin he does need to disclose that. Ebay says that all
    alterations must be disclosed. Clearly
that is what this seller does on his dollars.

Been down this road with Ebay before...even when you can prove the coins were artificially toned by showing where the seller bought the same untoned coins on ebay they still do nothing so it's just more of their PR garbage to make some folks think they actually do police their site......total joke image

I agree that the coin is ugly as sin and clearly AT'd, but why would it be against eBay policy? How is different than selling a cleaned or polished coin?

if you would buy such an ugly coin, so be it. it's your choice. there's no reason to punish the seller for selling ugly coins. buyers are already punishing themselves by purchasing such crap. there's no reason to report such auction.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
