If you had one of every US coins, including all date, MM and denoms

Assume completion from 1793 to 2009 and in the case that a denomination was struck in various metals or designs, you need one of each from each date and mint (gold dollars/silver dollars/trade dollars as well as arrows/no arrows, obverse/reverse mint marks, commems etc. ).

Do not include the various errors (1922 no d cent, nor 1955/55 cent wouldn't count), various die marriages, or fantasy pieces (no 1804 dollar, 1913 v nickel, the 1866 transitional seated coins or patterns) how many coins would you have?

Now, what is your percentage of completion with your collection?

Does anyone know how many coins were in the Elisaberg collection?

My guesstimate # for my collection is probably 5-6%......???

EVERY Denom? Wow...that is a big collection.

My collection would probably be 2 to 3%.
All coins kept in bank vaults.

    oops, those too.

Back to the serious question though,

I gotta think that the first 50% would be easy. Take all the 20th century coins, only a very few are hard to obtain. In the 19th century, there are far more difficult ones, but still a great many are fairly easy.

It might even be fairly simple to get to 60%.

After that the difficulty curve really goes non-linear.

    ACR,

please post total count when you're finished image

BTW, I (personally) wouldn't count a change that didn't make an actual design difference
    for instance:
Heavy motto, light motto - no
    Type 1, 2, 3 Ikes - no
    VDB/no VDB - yes
    1939 Jeff reverse type 39/40 - no

My choice may seem arbitrary, and I'm not sure it isn't but if something isn't intrinsically different, then it's only a design improvement or beautification, not a change.

A large task to undertake. If the OP were to break it down by denomination and throw a count down for each, better results might be had. The results could then be averaged. Definitely an interesting thread.
