I have been a little off-kilter since my last trip to China and Bangkok in late March. For some reason, while I was away, Coin World and NN decided to actually stick to their production schedule and produce issues on a timely basis. As such, I am about 4 issues behind in my reading of both magazines. Unfortunately, I need to go back to Beijing for four days in the second week of May, which will put me further behind on my reading.
However, I am finding that these boards are proving to be a timely source of numismatic information, and I don't feel as though I am missing anything by being behind on my reading of the old-fashioned paper magazines. Does anyone else feel this way?

I finally let my NN subscription lapse when I realized that I spent more time fetching it from the
mailbox (a short walk from our house to the country lane where the mailbox is) than reading it.

If my only source of numismatic information was these boards, I would not know what numismatic literature auctions there are, what numismatic literature companies recently merged, and that the ANS has made their Q. David Bowers medal available for purchase now. (Of course, now the forum has made this information available.)

CW and NN always produce their magazines on schedule.
It is the USPS that then decides to age them in wooden barrels under an old oak tree for seven years.........
It is all too easy to specialize and focus on the series at hand, and also easy to just read the posts on this forum...but an old fashioned magazine is a great eye opener to the various avenues not explored. I found a great deal in there that was NOT available on these forums, and I am considering a subscription, since I find reading long winded things on the web very difficult.
Years from now, I can stack them alongside my two decades of Land Rover World and Land Rover Owner International...and see which stack is higher! Considering the British LR magazines are between 7-10$ each, I do cringe at all the money spent on them. However, having a very good memory I can often recall a tech tip which I once seen, and go through the stack and find the information.
Long after the internet has evolved into something more mystic than we can now imagine...these old magazine back issues will still be with us. I cannot seem to throw any of them away.
great coincidence

<< <i>Last month, at the meeting of the local Coin Club, I picked up three back issues of Coin World. This is the first coin magazine I read in many many years. Aside from the microscopic print in the ads, which I still have not been able to read, I found the magazine very interesting.
