This screams counterfeit...

...but I had to ask any $3 gold experts here what they think:

I am no gold counterfeit detector, but I was browsing ending soon items on ebay and saw this and thought hmm, it doesn't look very uniform to other $3 pieces I've seen in the past. The lettering is all blotchy, the 6 on the date looks funny too. So what say you $3 guys?

<< <i>Yup. Fake. And not a very good one either. >>
I'm not very good at spotting fakes. What makes you say this is fake?

There are a great many wonderful non-PCGS coins. In fact, some of them even end up in PCGS holders, and at higher grades than they were previously.

NGC, ANACS, and ICG also do a very good job of authenticating coins. Also, NGC wasn't the major grading service that slabbed all those micro-O Morgan dollars that were later proven to be fake.

The "another one" is a contemperaneous counterfeit and is collectible.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.
