I'm sorry to hear that you had a problem, I had recent dealings with Gord (TheOrioles), and he paid promptly and was easy to deal with, but that was me. Rich
Sorry I had to do this...still waiting to hear from one more member as well on another deal...sad the board has come to this. On some other boards actions like these would get you a 30 day or permanent ban...and there are much less issues...who woulda thunk it!
I am just adding this not editing anything , as long as this thread is in the archives other people can be warned. He asked me to fill his want list, I asked him about the budget, cut the price to basically half of asking to accomodate him, I spent hours filling a want list for him, then he kept me on the line, and finally said he cant afford it...we are talking under 50 bucks. i was hoping this thread would shame him into paying

Ban for deciding to not go through with a deal? I dont think so. Save the ban for the guy who takes your money and doesnt deliver....oh wait, nevermind....he's a hero in these parts!

Gio, you don't even know what you're agreeing with.
I would beg to differ about Gord, he's a great guy. I'm sure you have your reasons, and I don't know the details, but I hope you're not jumping the gun on this thread.
He was trying to find a new home for some old Becketts around a year ago, and sent me 12 issues I wanted. He didn't charge me anything, and ate the shipping from Canada to the California. He seems OK in my book.
To the OP - I'm sorry that you have had a problem. If I understand correctly, you had a buyer agree to a deal with you only to have that buyer back out before they paid. Often, this causes the seller time and frustration. Additionally, it costs that seller opportunity and compromise because a seller may be "holding" that card for the buyer hence refusing others' offers.
I have had this happen to me a few weeks ago (and it may be happening for a second time now). Weeks ago, a buyer reneged on a written commitment. While I had planned to keep the buyer name in confidence, I am reconsidering. Naming the perpetrators can be of some benefit to the larger collecting community. It holds the perpetrator accountable as a means to thwart recidivism. It also aids future sellers so that they can consider not dealing with that potential buyer.
Consequently, thanks to the OP for sharing this information with us.
Just wanted to note that there's another board member 'round these parts with a very similar user name... Orioles ... whom I've had nothing but pleasant interaction and one smooth trade with. I'd hate for anyone reading this thread now or later on to get Orioles confused with the guy who's being called out here.

OK... which of the two is from Canada? I have sold a few times to THAT one and everything went real well every time.
Ted ... sorry you had a bad experience. That SUCKS!

If I badmouthed everyone who didn't complete a deal I do believe I would run out of mouth. There is no requirement that bartering always end with a handshake. Some days peanuts, some days shells. Get over it and move on.
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
Customers changing their minds or flat out backing out of deals is something to be expected in the course of doing business. This doesn't make them bad people or even bad customers. However, the attitude taken by the seller speaks volumes of their limited business experience and lack of patience. Airing this info on an open forum does nothing to further the situation.
Been an ebayer for eleven years yet I have never been bent over there like I have been with a couple of board members here. And these are two of the boards most well known (and maybe even well liked) members. Nonetheless, there identities will remain with me alone.

I fell public embarrassment is a necessary course of action. IMO if more people did this there would be less people "backing out" and "changing their mind" when a better deal comes along or as they see fit. I have never backed out of a deal here on CU or any other card transaction ( I am limiting to cards because I did back out buying a 67 GTO for a few reasons) and if I did have to delay it, I would beg, borrow , and steal to have my good name not ruined. This is not just a problem occurring here, but in all of society. It speaks volumes that for the THIRD time this month I have not received items, or someone has backed out on a deal.
1) it is better for a potential buyer to back out of a deal rather than a) not the the item arrived, or b) say the item was damaged upon delivery. In these cases if you didn't purchase delivery confirmation, then the product never arrived and if you did purchase DC, they may stomp on the cards, send them back, and open a paypal claim against you.
2) no need to out the guy
