<< <i>Forgot all about that set. It's definitely listed kinda weird. Almost hard to find.

Interesting choices that PSA is using for the coach/admin guys and player who didn't have a true rookie card. To me, these make the set kinda ugly. 1985 Fleer Immortals? 2000 Topps Hall of Fame? Yikes...I can't imagine those ever becoming desirable or being considered actual ''rookie'' cards of these HOFers.

3 collectors chasing it, not bad I guess. I'd be shocked to ever see it more than 5.

    Jason,

Our hope when Greg and I were coming up with this set was to include as many HOFers as possible. Since some of the guys really don't have a mainstream card we used what we could to fill those holes. We even debated adding "manufacter cuts autos" on a few including Conzelman and Herber but ultimately decided against that notion due to the extreme scarcity. As far as I know there are about 6 of us that regularly post in the HOF RC Auto thread that I know are working on it. It's definitely fun although there are some really tough cards I know we are all hunting!

Just always interesting to see how PSA handles new sets and requests. There doesn't seem to be any standard applied across the board. We had to change from 1990 Score Cortez Kennedy to 1990 Action Packed Cortez Kennedy in the Future HOF Rookie-Modern set, simply because the Score wasnt listed in the Beckett Rookie Card Encyclopedia. And at the time, PSA told me specifically that the encyclopedia would be used for all sets regarded as ROOKIE sets. Yet, none of those non-mainstream cards in the rookie card auto set are listed in the encyclopedia. It just baffles me how often PSA changes their minds on what they want these sets to look like. If it's going to be wild, wild west and add or use anything (like the Brett Favre request to be added to the 1990's First Team All-Decade set) then so be it. Then don't make changes to other sets that the majority of the collectors are against just because some idiot Beckett guide says so.

I'm a military guy so I guess I just can't wrap my head around not having some type of standard or consistency in these sets. And if they decide one day to have a standard, don't change your mind on a whim a year later. I just wish the Registry can someday bring logic and understanding to their sets.

Why couldn't they move ALL of the Autographed sets into their own category. Key Card, Hall of Fame, Team sets, Player sets...AUTOGRAPH sets. They would be so much easier to find and have a much better chance of bringing new collectors in as it gives someone interested in collecting autographed cards a list of all the possible sets they could attempt to complete without scouring the thousands of currently registered sets in all categories. As it is now, I think the main reason they haven't become more popular is because of how and where PSA lists them on the Registry. I've been here for 7+ years, and it took me looking at the (total # collectors) in the HOF category to figure out which one this set is/was.

    Just my opinion of course,

    Jason,

I fully agree w/ your comment about consistency (or lack thereof at times). Consistency is the reason why our starting point for the NFL HOF signed rc set was the NFL HOF rc set. We didn't want to set the rc for Sammy Baugh as Bowman for the signed set and Leaf for the card set (for example). We wanted to retain a strong parallel to the rc set as a possible incentive for collectors to begin collecting the auto'd rc set. Our plan going forward is to include the designated rc from the NFL HOF rc set as the required card for the NFL HOF signed rc set. I don't want to break that linkage, otherwise the set could easily descend into chaos.

I am fully supportive of creating a separate section of the registry solely for autographed sets. I'll e-mail Cosetta and see what she thinks. You have a good point that many collectors may not collect the autographed sets because they don't know the sets exist as many are buried alongside the regular card sets.
