eBay Seller Communications

What do you expect in communication from an eBay seller after you make a significant coin purchase?
For example: I bought a $2,000 coin late Monday night from a major eBay coin seller. It is now Friday night and I haven't heard a word. PayPal payment was processed immediately.
I've bought hundreds of coins on eBay and sometimes they just show up in the mail with nary a word and this appears to be one of those cases (I hope!).

only have auctions ending when I'll be home. I also recontact them when I put the package in the mail system. Then
when it's delivered (I used Del Conf on all sales) I contact them again to make sure THEY got the coin and are happy.
Never ask for feedback and give feedback upon payment.
My DSR's are 4.9+, 5.0, 5.0 and 4.9+
I never offer free shipping and never insure under $100 (self insure).
My average sale is about $200 plus or minus with some $20 coins and some $500 coins.
I'd be upset if I were you and hope all goes well and the coin is MUCH BETTER than you anticipate (that
will make up for the what if's).

Great work! Your DSR for communications deserves a 5.0+!
If i get asked a question i always try to answer in a timely manner, i will adjust shipping if they buy multiple items. I see no real reason to send them a email thanking them for their payment and that i appreciate them buying the coin i named alvin. That alvin perfers not to be placed by other coins in ngc holders and that he perfers to be front and center.
I used to send them an email with the tracking number but i though that happened automaticly now??

A more thoughtful seller would also leave a quick note via the eBay messaging thanking the buyer for his business and letting him know his coin shipped (as many really don't pay attention to the shipping icon in their MyeBay page.)

Typically I write a little note in the PayPal payment to say, "thanks, let me know when ship, etc."
When I've sold in the past, I always sent a Thank You and let them know when I shipped.
I would appreciate a quick note or email, but less and less do I get them. I always remember those sellers that have communication skills, and actually my first exposure to this board was through a couple ebay sellers I became "pen-pals" with just by that type of communication.
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

Not that small at all! 50 a week for a year is over 2,000. It took me many years to do that many.
I believe you can set on option on PayPal to send an email with invoice and a big, huge, Pay Now with Pay Pal button automatically. I set that up and believe that is happening. You can customize the message with your logo. I thought eBay would also send email.
When I get paid I ship the next day. So in the OP's situation he would have the coin already.
As another form of communication I try to give positive feedback the day I receive payment. My ratings are pretty high too so I'm guessing that some messages are getting through. I don't get many complaints from buyers. If I get any it is normally a simple, I want to return the coin, message, but that doesn't happen often.

when you email the customer from the PayPal Mailing Label screen does that send a shipping email?
The name is LEE!
thank you
In other words, this guy was going to wait 21 business days, with no acknowledgement, and without sending me my coins. 21 business days, plus weekends, plus mailing time, would be over a month. He was going to answer my payment with a month of silence. And I sent him a cash equivalent, a US postal money order, which can be immediately verified with a toll-free phone call to the US postal service, and can also be verified with the watermark, etc. and can be encashed at a post office for instant real money.
I told him that if the purchase was on ebay he would get negative feedback from me, and I wanted to cancel the transaction, and not do any business with him, and get a refund. He ignored my attempted cancellation, and instead emailed me April 16th that he was sending the coin. Should I refuse to accept the package if it arrives as promised, and insist on a refund?
<< <i>When I finally inquired by email on April 15th, he replied with the claim that his bank told him they would not clear the money order for 21 business days. >>
That's a new one on me. I have to assume since you completed the transaction off eBay and paid with a M.O. that you got an excellent price?
When the coin arrives, if you like it then keep it. The delay is unacceptable but beautiful coins can be worth the wait.

Russ,
I assume you pay with paypal and have a paypal email address that you check. If they ship using paypal shipping, you should at least get that.
I bought a golf club tonight and I expect it to show up in the mail soon. Should I expect something between now and then? Nothing they send me, unless it is bad news, will change any action I plan to take between now and then so what do I need with more bits and bytes?

<< <i>I wouldn't have started a thread for my case, but since this related one already exists, I'd like to describe what just happened to me. I made a substantial coin purchase from a regular ebay coin seller, with well over 6000 feedbacks, near the end of March, and paid via US postal money order on March 30th. The purchase was off ebay. The seller is in an adjacent state and probably received payment after two days, meaning April 1st. He never acknowledged, and sent me nothing. When I finally inquired by email on April 15th, he replied with the claim that his bank told him they would not clear the money order for 21 business days.

Botanist,
Unless your off ebay deal had some stated delivery time, then you are saying that you want to unilaterally cancel a done deal. Now you can explain that you are unhappy with his shipping plans but to cancel based on them is not justified in my opinion. --Jery

There are plenty of sellers who don't use PayPal shipping. Last two items I got in were covered with postage stamps.

You can always tell who used to have a stamp collection, can't you.
it seems that they come automatically for the most part,
and I don't expect an email that the coin was shipped.
I would expect to receive it next week.
If you are concerned, you can easily send an email asking when it was shipped.

Some of my outgoing packages look pretty cool with a bunch of Elvis stamps.
