What would you do?

Hi everyone , this is my first post at this forum, as I usually hang out at the currency side, but I do have a few coins I collect too. I'm hoping someone here can help. Recently I picked up a sweet deal on a 1885-cc Morgan, GSA pack from 1972. I'm a bit confused when it comes to the value stated in the CW Coin Values mag. A regular '85cc starts at G4 for $425 and goes to $750 for MS-60. The GSA starts at MS-60 valued at $550 up to $3500 at MS-66. I'm puzzled as to how it's graded when it's in the GSA holder, and why the value is lower than that of a "regular" '85cc Morgan, until it hits MS-65, where it becomes more valuable---according to the book. Has anyone sent a GSA in to PCGS for grading? Does it come back in a PCGS slab, or the original GSA holder? I'm not a grader, but I don't think it's a MS-65 or better---bag marks and such. Think I should get it graded? Thanks for your help! Wiley

Probably not worth sending in. Greysheet is $510 in MS60 and $580 in MS64. There's no question it's BU, so don't bother. It's worth more in the GSA holder.

I'd keep it in the GSA holder

Either keep it in the holder, or send it to the service that grades it and labels the holder. Cheers, RickO
  • Thanks for the comments. I guess I will just keep it as is.
