New Purchase: Proof 1866 Seated dime

I barely own a handful of Seated dimes, devoting most of my attention to the half dimes and quarters instead. However, I had to buy this piece when I saw it listed on Mark Feld's website last week. It's graded PR65 and CAC stickered, and the only thing that really hurts its eye appeal is those awful white beams of plastic that seem to be fused to its rim. What a pity, it's a great coin otherwise. I believe that this is one of the best coin photos I presently own. The coin came out of a recent auction, and I'm afraid to say they had sub-par photos of this coin that made it look like a corroded slug. Similar pretty-toned examples of this date in PR65 have brought twice as much at auction in the past, when proper photos were provided. Sometimes a picture is worth 1,000 words, or dollars, if you know what I mean. Hope you enjoyed seeing this coin.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I did thanks.

Someday I'll have to up grade to Proof for this type. Right now I have an MS-64.
<< <i>Just out of curiosity, what keeps it out of a higher grade? Surely not the plastic prongs.
In my opinion, just some very faint hairlines, which is, far more often than not, what limits the grade on Proof coins.
<< <i>That dime is beyond beautiful. I'd be proud to own that gorgeous coin! >>
For once, I agree with Dizzy.

I guess the more and more I post (now that I'm approaching 10k posts) this was certainly inevitable.
<< <i>That's the nicest dime I've ever seen.
