Is it just a guy in a room with a pile of coins in front of him and so some stuff like this passes out of sheer volume, or does someone actually decide it is ok, while other obvious NT stuff just falls victim to whos on shift that day?
I noticed in some of the sellers other auctions, he lists the coins as NGC certified, but only shows a raw coin in the images, no slab. I thought e-bay rules say if you list a grading company in the title, you must show front and back of the holder? What am I missing here?
There are an amazing quantity of AT coins in slabs. Do not fault the graders. It is not rocket science to tarnish a coin so that it appears natural. Accelerated toning (which is real, just faster), when done properly, will not be detected. Cheers, RickO

I suppose in these cases they agents used could continue to tone further in the slab and reveal their artifical nature down the line. But youd think they have some kind of test for that. They should hire toners like they hire hackers to help fight crime.

I agree 100%. While i love toned coins, ill never pay big money for them just for the simple fact it can be recreated rather easy and fast. Also edited to add: That seller always uses garbage for photos.
Wow this is the second time a bunch of people wasted their time blogging about my Killer Toned Walker. Just an FYI, I was the one who pulled it out of the Whitman Short Set folder and submitted them all to NGC. All had similar reverse toning from the folder. Why assume that the coin was altered? Why spend so much time making false accusation about altered photos? Just an FYI the coin sold yesterday to a major dealer on Toned and cameo material. Regards, Ron

At the very least you have to admit bigger pictures are justified for what you are asking. That dealer may have had the luxury to see the coin in hand, i dont know, but based on these tiny pictures you have supplied, it is hard to assume anything but AT at worst and photoshopped pictures at best.
I may be wrong about this coin. And if so I apologize. But I can tell you that several coins you have had listed over the past couple years have caught my eye, only to release it once the pictures were too small to ascertain accuracy. And I think you have lost a couple other bidders the same way. Surely asking a 2450$ premium on a $50 price guide coin is worth some bigger pictures?

I usually show photos of the raw coin (pre-slabbed) because they're better images. But I make sure I show a slab photo too.
Lance.
<< <i>In fairness to NGC, the images of the coin in the holder look little like the raw coin images. >>
I wondered if the pics were juiced but on the revese the color patterns seem to match up:

Do you have larger pics of the coin to share?
