<< <i>The real question is if anyone had their 1909 VDB coin stolen recently...or maybe grandpa died and their grandson bought some candy...
Because IMHO that's the only real way a coin like that would be on the loose out there.
But congrats on being the lucky finder! >>
That isn't the only way..... I purchased about 50 rolls of wheats one time from the local bank that an old widow turned in after her husband died... and in the rolls was a 2 09 VDB's and an 09 S, and a 1914 S in xf...both of the 09's were low grade but still great finds
so you can still find great coins in circulation.

Maybe not as I have dumped old Wheaties in circulation on occasion - including 1909-VDBs. Most circ Wheaties bring 2-4 cents at my local dealer - more fun to spend them.

I would tell you that you are a liar, but then again I really did find one in box searches last year, and it is VF too. Just wish it had a little S on the front like it was supposed to have.

Its a down economy. People are turning in loose change for $. Excellent time to roll search. I found two 1909's (no vdb) in a box last month. Also in the box was a 1919-s and about other 40 wheats almost one per roll!

Make sure it's not one of the two well-known DDOs too ... now that would REALLY pay for a nice lunch! Cool find, congratulations! We have an, er, special fondness for those coins

My little one and I have been searching boxes of cents for some four years now and we've never found a V.D.B. in a roll. I have about twenty of them from my years of collecting, most in pretty decent circulated grades, but then I've been at this from around 1909, or, so it seems. We've found numerous IHCs. That's how I want to find ours, though, when/if it comes: staring right up at us; shaking as we turn it over.
