Just stopped buying and selling for a few months.

I think the little guy (myself included) have paid the bills for many dealers due to volume. PITA at times? Maybe.

    Ebay shares would fall
    Chinese counterfeiters would starve
Gold and silver prices would flatline

Wholesaling among dealers would continue at fantasy prices.

Since most business seems to be dealer to dealer I doubt if collectors would even be missed.image

A "bear market" for collectors tends to drive the bull(yawn) market for speculators but that's for another forum.

I wonder what would happen if generosity overtook greed ?

I could ponder all day long.

In the meantime, I purchased 120 Morgan & Peace dollars today.

PM me if you want one for $25 shipped. They're going out the door...because WHAT IF image

    Can't argue with that image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

If all the small guys quit buying and selling for the next six months, I believe the average local coin shop would be gone when they went back.

If by average, you are referring to the price ranges (i.e. not super rare, expensive coins), then, if the hiatus were to last a year, most dealers would be out of business. Cheers, RickO

I imagine the forum would be a decidedly boring place. Me? I'd be happy to be able to buy something every few months!

Many small time dealers would be out of business. This could lead to much fewer dealers at shows, which in turn could lead to the show being shut down if not enough dealers buy tables. It could turn into a very vicious cycle that would hurt the coin industry greatly.

This would mean that dealers would have to double up on their transactions with other dealers to make up for the lost collector volume. The "good" thing would be that prices would be forced to rise making the market all better again! image
