Why are you sending coins in to regrade with SecurePlus???

Judging from the threads thus far about the subject, it doesn't make sense. Submitters are apparently satisfied with the coins as they are yet they are submitting them for a (+) under the new service. There are a few reasons I can think of and none of them make sense to me.
So why are you submitters sending them in??

If I had some super valuable coins I might want it if I feared they might be stolen.

Just to annoy the anti-PCGS crowd.
Can I submit a raw coin for the quarterly special and still get a + ?
Thanks in advance.

Absolutely. Crossovers are the problem.

On #1…no comment, or should it be reversed?
On #2…why don’t these folks buy numismatic books – they are much more about coins than some inert piece of plastic.

If you send in a coin for grading and it deserves the plus, then it should get it; whether you paid extra for the service or not. The grade is what it is.

Agree. If you sell in a few years, who knows what grading standards will have been adopted by PCGS?

That would really be something if it happens. 66+ would be very cool.

<< <i>Although I am pleased and encouraged with the step forward represented by the laser printing process, the only thing I see as obvious with the 'enhanced' grading system, is monetary gain for those who sell coins. For those (presently in the VAST minority) that can competently grade, and collect, it really is meaningless. Of course, there are the elitists who will bask in the pleasure of having a + on their coins, simply for bragging rights. For those, I would say, second place is the first loser. Cheers, RickO >>
Why do you label someone an 'elitist' who seeks or owns a coin that has a +? Why do you assume someone will 'brag' about such a coin? Maybe the owner is completely humble and paid good money for a great coin that earned a +,......

the new policy ( I think) charges extra to get a plus on normal tier , non-Secure plus , submissions except moderns and regrades (I think)
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

I sent in a solid and strong classic Monroe in 65. In getting the + as I did, I get the grade and the holder. In return, the value of the coin increased $500. Why wouldn't that be worth the risk for a PQ quality coin?
While I agree that unless you are about to sell/market a coin, a Secure Plus submission may be premature.
But as roadrunner indicated, the plus on some coins may be very worthwhile. And the Secure feature should add confidence to the newer collector, and those that question the toning on some coins.
Examples: There have been graded over 30 1835 CBH's in 64, but less than a handful in 65 or better. A plus here should add better than expected value.
There are several CBH's where the top grade by PCGS is 63 or 64. A plus of one of the several graded 3's or 4's would make that coin top pop.( versus tied for top spot with several others).
Since it takes a liner to get the plus, you have the chance to get the next higher grade( which I did on 7 of the coins I submitted.)
And while I do not plan to sell the completed set in the near future, several of my dupes got a +, and that will help in trades/sales.
If I don't..........................somebody else will!
The name is LEE!
1. First, all the submissions I did were under the freebie program. Quarterly specials and free grades for a 90% set.
2. Second, the first coin I submitted I bought for $3, submitted it twice including presidential review and only got a 66. Under Secure plus system, came back as a 67+. I really think the graders rely on the computer scans for grading. I think there's more than just looking for altered coins. It finally got the tomb it deserved. It went from a $3 coin, to a $200 coin, to a $2500 coin.
3. Even though submitted for free, the upgrades for the coins have actually improved my standing in the Registry game.
4. When/if I ever decide to sell, this new "CAC" style sticker adds value, actually more than if I paid for the service.
-possibility of financial gain (+ coins sell for more)
-possibility of higher Registry ranking
- patting oneself on the back ("I knew this was PQ, that is why i bought it")
and they're cold.
