My first hoard!!!

This is a hoard that was found in Philadelphia near midtown! It is pretty cool because it has coins dated from the late 1800's to the 1940's. There was a seated dime dated 1883, a few barbers, five mercs, a couple of indians, a few buffaloes and lots of wheaties. I am in the process of getting them cleaned, but to be honest, they are very corroded. There appears to ahve been a bill that is no longer, but encrusted in the devices and is like concrete. I found them last weekend at a privy dig. I will keep you posted!

WTG!!! People keep telling me that old privys are a good spot. How deep did you have to go to find these?

Very cool find... I hope it cleans up.... begin by a liberal washing in running, warm water to remove all the surface gunk... then a hot peroxide bath should remove another bunch of debris. See what they look like after that, there are further methods. Do NOT scrub them in any way... there could be valuable coins there. Too bad about the bill. Good luck, Cheers, RickO

We actually found this 2' down, but the hole went 12'. We actuallt dug one last month that went 32'. It took 8 hours to refill the hole!

Thanks for the tips for cleaning. They are really encrusted so I think that it will take a lot of patience.
