Plus and CAC questions

hiijackerhiijacker Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭
So I have a bunch of PCGS coins. Assuming I love Kool-Aid

Should I first send to CAC, and if they sticker send them to PCGS and if they +, send them back to CAC to resticker?

OR

Should I first send to PCGS and then send to CAC only if they +?

You can make a good argument for doing all of the above and none of the above. It really depends on the coins and what you hope to accomplish from the additional submissions.

I like the CAC because it is cheap, the turnaround is quick, and I learn something new with each submission.

I also like Secure Plus because of the security features and the potential upside of the +. Additionally, I am a PCGS homer and like to support their initiatives. I have sent three coins for this service, and they have not yet been received.

I also like doing nothing. If you are happy with the coins, as they are, and have no immediate plans to sell, why not leave them as is?

I think you send to pcgs first for the + then if it gets it send to cac for their gold sticker.

If it does not get it then send to cac and hope for a green bean.....

If it does not get the green bean well .....

I think you will be spending a bunch of money on grading and shipping that could be spent on another coin for your collection.

How valuable are these coins? How confident are you with your ability to grade these coins? It may be a smart move or a waste of your money depending on your answers.

It is hard to imagine a greater waste of money or to conceive of such an exercise in futility. What are your motives? Why would you even think of such things? Enjoy your coins. Or, if this is causing you such consternation and frustration, get out of the hobby for a while. Take a break. Cheers, RickO

Sounds like the OP has no confidence in his/her own grading ability and thinks that no one else does either. Wrong thinking.
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.

Should I first send to CAC, and if they sticker send them to PCGS and if they +, send them back to CAC to resticker? Yes. If CAC will not sticker the coin, there is very little chance for a Plus with SecurePlus.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Secure Plus then sticker. The bar for the + designation is much higher IMO.

What are the coins (price/series/grades) and why are you thinking of sending them?
    For registry (+)?
    For resale (CAC and/or +)
For yourself (do you care if they have either)?

If they are not higher end coins, or worth a bit more than a few hundred, I wouldn't even factor S+ into it.
Too much $$$ for that level.

If you absolutely want to go that route, I would do CAC then S+ then CAC again (if the same grade, and maybe even if not...will be in new plastic so the sticker won't be there but the serial# will be the same).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I imagine there's a huge endorsement happening everywhere to promote the new "Secure Plus" to generate sales for just about everyone. So...what's everybody hearing when a coin with the Secure Plus is being promoted. Do Heritage or B & M have boxes of Secure Plus only slabs for customers who want only Secure Plus graded coins? I mean, it's the new fad now, is all the buzz out there about the new Secure Plus grading service?
    What's the word?

Random question - how hard is it to get approved to send coins to CAC if you're already an ANA member? (I've never downloaded the application. "Applications" scare me. Like I went 1-for-4 when it was time to apply for college back in the day...)

Not hard at all and I highly recommend doing it.

You just need 3 numismatic references. The app form is very short.
