    1) You know, if Laura is going to start taking these opinions down after she posts them, I am going to have to start printing them out. They might be worth collecting.

    2) By the way, the best thing to do with SecurePlus is be patient and wait to see how it sorts out. Might be a few years before anyone should say too much.

    3) I am now completely confused by the meaning of the term "dreck" as its creator (okay, maybe she didn't "coin" the term but close enough) has now used it to describe some pretty lofty coins.

    4) Laura is a smart lady, but may at times be a bit impulsive.

    5) As Bear said, PCGS being highly persnickety on its apportionment of Plus grades is a good thing.

I interpret "dreck" to be a coin that is low end for the assigned grade.

A coin that doesn't get the CAC bean could reasonably be considered "dreck".

Clearly not getting the "+" does NOT mean dreck.

Millions of very solid for grade, eye appealing coins would not get a "+".

They would however earn a bean.

For a woman that is not afraid to speak her mind...... Saying it and printing it just became 2 different things. I was surprised that she posted her thoughts so soon. I guess she was just venting because the creame of the creame did not recieve a + in her opinion.

This is just going to take some time to see where it goes. I look forward to seeing what gets a plus. Depending on what it does to values i may finnally buy an expensive coin or 2.

Overall i like the +, it will be a help to the internet bidders and buyers that are not in the inner circle that want to purchase nice coins. A lot of collectors do not have relationships with the so called movers and shakers and the new + may be the ticket for them.

It should not take long to see what the + has to do with eye appeal

That is because it was quickly removed.Probably cooler heads prevailed

after the first rush of anger, disappointment and frustration. Never write

anything when you are angry. It is always best to write your thoughts down and

place it in a desk draw for a day or two, the read it with a more objective demeanor.

  • I am a long time customer of Legends. I have never seen any other dealer come close to the way Laura protects and fights for her customers and the coin business.

She also has a strong enough eye to not only build some of the finest collections ever-but she can sell me the exact coins I am looking for (believe me I am not easy). So, in my mind, if she has a beef with the new grading scale, it is most likely warranted.

What she wrote was not whining. My guess is she is one very upset and angry girl. I doubt she took down her article without being forced to do so.

@coincollector2007: I read the article before it was taken down and can tell you most assuredly: Your guess is correct.

I did not get to see her rant.
I suspect that somebody with PCGS requested that it be removed.

At the end of the day I think she was ticked off that none of the Simpson Peace dollar coins were deemed plus worthy by PCGS. Everything else written seemed to be spawned from that. I can understand her frustration from where she is sitting.............She's a Peace of workimage.....................I'm a fan. MJ

    I missed the rant also...

I have a feeling eventually all coins will go through the scanner. Hopefully the sooner the better. I think/hope the scanner will be a great step forward to insure grade consistency and fight the coin docs. For it to really work, all coins being graded will need to go through the scanner.

I'm curious how that process works...Dear Laura, don't write inflammatory blogs about our services, or we'll never give you a plus again image

It's good to hear that everyone cares so much, this hobby wouldn't be nearly as interesting if we didn't have people who cared like they do...I think it pushes us all to be better collectors and more principled people.

The new article looks like it is in favor of the new PCGS processes...since it protects against the things Laura is so mad about. IE, Gradeflation, Coin Doctoring, etc. Of course I missed the original version.

I tend to agree with what Joe O'Connor wrote - tho I do strenuously disagree with this opinion:

Unfortunately, CAC has not been widely adopted, with strong support coming only from a few dealers who are also CAC owners.

CAC has been widely successful at what it has attempted to accomplish. JMHO

Perhaps the best evidence of such is that 14 out of 18 coins listed on his own website are CAC? image

  • This post started out with Laura ranting about not getting a single +plus on any of the Legend - Simpson Peace Dollar Set.

I just checked the CAC pop report and can confirm that her 1924 ms68 ( only one ) and her 1922-S ms66 ( only two known and I know where the second one is and it does not have the CAC sticker )had the CAC sticker. I am wondering just how many of the 24 coins did have the CAC stickers when they were sent in for the SECURE PLUS. Even the coveted CAC stickers did not help her get one +plus out of 24 coins.
