Purhcase I knew I wasn't going to get it - ever happen to you?

1990'S Green Bay Packers Team SIGNED Proline Helmet including Reggie White

Always wanted another Green Bay Packers Auto Helmet with Brunell on it. I had followed this item for over six months...each time "watching it" on my ebay page. It was always listed as a Buy It Now with Best Offer Option. It started off at $1500, then went down to $1200 and then to $950. At some point I did make an offer of $400, but was turned down.

Finally, he listed it as an auction and I won it for $255 plus $22 UPS shipping which I paid within the SAME minute! That was March 9th.

The seller didn't "send" the item until March 17th via USPS (eight days after payment). It came with a tracking # that hasn't showed anything except "Class: Priority Mail...Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received"

I inquiried about it on March 22 and they said "we would refund your money if it doesn't show up soon".

For some reason, I had a bad feeling that I wasn't going to get this "steal". Could this to be a classic case of seller remorse!

I waited until Sunday (26 days) before making a claim with ebay/paypal...I got a refund on Sunday.

Other items over the years that "got lost" are Brunell/Thiesmann Dual Auto/Jersey #/25 and the ever elusive 2000 Fleer Mystique Pendemonium (Pen, Stand and Auto Card)!

This kind of BS really kills me! Has this ever happened to you before?

Good for the seller, I wouldn't want to sell something to someone who went around bragging about a "steal" and how they got something for pretty much nothing.

You pick up something for a good deal, come, share, tell us you got a good deal, but in this case you're just rubbing it in. You've been watching the item for some time, put an offer in for 400 and then pick it up for 225? Obviously he is not going to sell it to you. Again, good for the seller.

    Just sayin'

I don't know about his. If the seller did not want to give it away at that price why would he list it at that price. Whenever I wanted to sell something but wanted a minimum price I either listed it as a BIN or put a reserve on it. The buyer did nothing wrong. There is not one person on this board who if they picked up something dirt cheap would not tell others about it.

Mullins is off his meds it seems. To the thread starter, I hope you did use the neg option in the FB. That seller surely deserves it! Sellers always like to emphasize something to the effect of "this is a legally binding contract...dont bid if you dont intend to pay!". Well, now we are on the other side of the equation here. Dont auction an item unless you are willing to sell to the highest bidder!!!

Good for the seller??? Are you kidding??

    Douchebag seller and douchebag post.

edited to add that I just emailed the seller and asked if they're going to list the helmet again.

Worst post of the year. Didn't you call out a seller for not shipping a card to you? Seems to be very similar.

Why put the item up for auction if you're not prepared to get a less than stellar sales price? That's what the fixed price auctions are for. Somebody needs a refresher course.
  • GarabaldiGarabaldi Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭
Don't list it if you do not want to sell it. That is the gamble with an auction and that goes for the price. Make sure you do not want it anymore or you are OK with it selling for a price less than you think it is worth.

    Yup.

Another lesson for sellers in the perils of EBAY's "dead" listing-format known as "auctions."

I have a feeling it will show up soon........in his ebay store.

I agree that you should leave negative FB that specifically mentions his lack of willingness to complete the auction, to warn away other buyers who may hope to get a good deal.
  • bobbyw8469bobbyw8469 Posts: 7,144 ✭✭✭
I emailed him about it and he claims UPS lost it......when I get home, I will forward the response I got.....the 2nd response he said I was a 'mediator'.....I replied....Im no mediator....just n interested outside party....
  • GarabaldiGarabaldi Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭
There is also this thing called a "Reserve Price" if you do not want to let it go for less than you think it is worth.
  • stevekstevek Posts: 30,315 ✭✭✭✭✭
I guess the seller figures we are doubting his word, but I don't believe in coincidences when it comes to business - the buyer getting that great deal and then the package getting "lost"...that's too much of a coincidence in my view.

Let's get this straight, the seller furnished Priority Mail shipping info:

    << <i>"Class: Priority Mail...Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received" >>

And now when asked about it claims UPS lost it:

<< <i>I emailed him about it and he claims UPS lost it >>

Seems like we have another selller to avoid and maybe pressure ebay to punish him. That is unless he supplies a REAL tracking #.
  • very curious to see if it ends up being listed again, if he is smart the seller will let someone else sell it on their account, lest he look like a complete jackass.
  • AkbarCloneAkbarClone Posts: 2,476 ✭✭✭
I doubt he will list on eBay anytime soon. Information posted on some of their auctions lists his store address and hours:

    MONDAY-FRIDAY 9am-9pm central time
    Windy City Authentics
    621 Sienna Dr.
    Schaumburg, Illinois 60193
    Owner/Operator: John Illyes 847-340-5390

If anyone lives close to that city, they could go visit his store and see if the helmet is sitting in their display case for sale. image

That's me, except you left out how the seller ignored my emails, wouldn't issue refund, almost exactly a year later relists the card, and then comes here and makes multiple lies about it.

I've had many auctions go for lower, WAY lower than expected, but I always honor the final bid regardless.

The seller here was in the wrong, but I can't fault him for not selling the item to the buyer. This isn't a case of seller's remorse, rather it is a case of the seller not being made a fool of.

Wrong....its a case of the seller breaching a contract....pure and simple.

Who was the fool? The seller believed the item was worth more the the market would offer. Just because a seller WANTS more $ for an item, if the DEMAND isn't there, then the seller's perception is wrong and misguided. In a straight auction, there was LESS interest than I was willing to go.

You win some, you lose some when auctions are done, but that's the risky a seller takes when you list it without a reserve.

When given enough rope, it's interesting how quickly some will hang themselves.

Folks can point fingers, blame others, but when the same foul smell continues to rise, it is pretty easy to figure out who isn't worth the time of day . . .

How was the seller being made a fool of? The seller is wrong, plain and simple, defending the seller in this case, is just moronic.

The seller is 100% wrong if he did decide not to sell it because he did not get the price he wanted.

Since I have learned that ebay sellers are crooks and buyers are idiots I feel there can be compromise. Any seller whose cards go to low simply don't ship and relist. I will set snipes so high I can't lose. Prices I am happy with I will pay, those that go too high I will ignore and the seller can relist that one also. After all as a buyer I don't want to be made a fool of either.
