BST: I don't mind the posts regarding ebay sales

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
but I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish that those that list their ebay auctions on the BST would at least post small (if not normal size) pics of the coins they are selling (whether on ebay or straight up on the BST).

If one already has pics on ebay (duh), then it is just laziness, imho, to NOT put the same links/pics in the BST ad linking to ebay. Would likely generate more traffic as I, in 99% of the cases, see something like:
"FS: Toned coins/quarters/dimes + key dates" and, when I click on the BST post, I see a link and nothing else but some words.

I don't see a breakdown of the coins. I don't see pics. I back out and go elsewhere. On the rare occassion that I follow through to ebay, sure enough, there are photos there (like there are supposed to be according to ebay rules).

Now, from an utter newbie on the board, I might expect that and look the other way while they learned. But, from some of the experienced folks, that KNOW how to post pics, I find it a sin.

Am I the only one this bothers or does it bother others (not talking about getting bothered by ebay posts, but rather, the lack of photos and lists of what someone is linking to on ebay)????

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I agree, it would be nice if they did a list of what is being offered and some pics. Best case, if they're only selling a few items to list each link individually with pics.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

I have a link to my ebay auctions so it is only one click to get to all the photos, how hard is that?

I run new auctions every week and to link all the coins or show photos of all the auctions is silly when one link at the bottom will do AND BE CURRENT!!!!!!

They did provide pics and a description. All you have to do is click the eBay link.

Make for a rather large bunch of photos in a BST listing if you have 200 or so listings on eBay.

    Bochiman,

Glad you brought it up because it is something in my limited experience here that I hadn't considered yet, but when brought up makes sense. (edited to add) especially when you are someone like me that lists things one or two at a time. Other points brought up about mulitple listings makes sense too.

True, and those may be different cases.

I still stand by it though and, if there are others like me, then the sellers that rationalize the way they do things are missing out on a potential audience by saying things like "how hard is that?" to go click on a link.
If I wanted to search ebay listings, I would go there and do that. As it is, I like to see what board members are selling (I've bought plenty from board members...from $10-$2000 items, so it isn't like I am only a tire kicker).

It's funny though, when I sell, I want the most folks to see/consider what I am selling. I try to make it as easy as possible for someone to click the button to buy/bid. I don't make excuses.
Others seem to want to add extra clicks or make a few more hoops to be jumped through.

Oh well, it's your listings folks......do what you want to and don't mind ways to get more folks to look at the items you have for sale.....take the easy way out image

I guess its that extra step that folks find, not so much difficult or hard, as they do irritating.

Fortunately, folks can list their BST threads anyway they want, which is ok with me.

the only time i see this as a bad thing is when i follow the link and the auctions have closed. to that point i'd hope members could delete a link or edit a thread when the auctions close, but i sure don't mind entering a thread and following a link. it really just takes about five seconds if you have a decent connection.

Two or three seconds is a eternity to some people. These people have chit to do and no time. Geez...Give Em a Break.

    NOT!!

They have time to complain here and on the BST forum though.

As it is I lose 20-30 % on each auction, and now you want us to spend another half hour listing our Ebay crap. Lets see 9% Ebay fees, 3% paypal fees, 3 hours to take pictures and list the coins and now another 1/2 hour to make it easier for home boys. I think my Ebay days are gone.image >>

Well, that's between you and ebay image

I'm amazed, somewhat, that people don't take extra steps to try to get more eyeballs on their goods. But, no skin off my nose.
Maybe I'm alone in skipping ebay ads on the BST when there is no info or pics, and just a link. I figure those 2-3 seconds are mine and if people don't want to spend a few seconds themselves, I'll keep mine. Now, how hard is that? image

Well, lets think about this for a second.

If you like the coin in the BST post, aren't you going to click the eBay link anyway? Unless. of course, you're going to offer a price outside of eBay in which case a photo would be beneficial.

Myself, I post pics and links but sometimes forget to update the links.

I do mind them. One reason is because so many of the titles don't say anything about eBay. Another is because in my opinion the B-S-T board was intended for material that is for sale here, not a billboard to publicize that, "I have something for sale over there!"

I would very much like to see a separate "For Sale on eBay" message board... which I would never have to go into.
    When in doubt, don't.

If the BST forum allows eBay auctions, PCGS should call the forum the Buy, Sell, Trade, and Auction Forum.

The rules at the top say to mention eBay in the title if that applies along with others things.

<< <i>There are far too many instances of people posting several threads at a time offering items for sale. I've edited some, I've PM'd others to combine their threads, but it seems to have had little effect. As of now, no more warnings, no more Mr. Nice Guy. If I see multiple threads on the same page, or multiple threads TTT'd from the same author or friends continually bumping, I'll delete them all with no warning. >>

<< <i>..............and do put ebay in the title if that's where the items are being sold and not in the main body. >>

It is difficult when you're browsing the BST to buy something and there's a thread with a long list of coins with no pics, and sometimes no prices either. image

It takes ALOT longer than 2-3 seconds to upload pics onto photobucket, and then post them in here. It takes exactly 0.6 seconds for me to click an easy link. Quit your senseless whining.

Gecko, you come right back and attack me, don't you? I haven't said anything to you in a LONG time, but you come here and call it "senseless whining"?
    You still have no couth.

It isn't "senseless whining", rather, as I see it, it is seller laziness. Note, I didn't call anyone out on it when I posted.
Heck, there is someone on the BST that has a lot of items listed on ebay but took the time to list some pics so folks have an idea of what they are selling. THAT, unlike you, is a class act (and, I then proceeded to click through and look at the auctions and have a few that I am watching and may bid on).

Once you have the ebay auction up, tell me how hard it is to have TWO browser windows open and right click, copy, then re-paste (into the 2nd browser window).....go ahead and tell me. If a seller can't spend a few MINUTES to do a class job, then why bother unless they have something that can't be found anywhere else (but then, they don't want to list their items, nor photos, so how would one know anyway?)

I'll spend my money with sellers who care (gives me a better idea of how they will treat the customer) image

It is no longer possible, as far as I know anyway, to do the right-click, copy and paste dilly-wanger when the pics are hosted by eBay. If you select "Copy Image Location" instead you just end up with non-usable javascript.

    Robb,
Not true for all/most of them. I did just it with one on my watch list. Took me less than 2 seconds to click on the item, then right click and get properties.
Some of the folks do try to restrict their images. That takes a few seconds longer. Ebay is not a place to post "Secure" photos as they can get gotten easily.

Again......0.6 seconds to click a link.......2-3 minutes to cry about it in a coin forum. Do the math.
