I'm helping a friend of a friend with some 1800s gold...UPDATED with Grades

Hi Y'all
I'm out of element on a couple of pieces, was hoping someone could give me gray sheet on these two:
1857 $3 Gold, seems to me to be XF45, raw....some research said this is one of the more commonly counterfeited years, so is it even worth sending to pcgs?
1898 $5 Gold, seems to me to be maybe an AU50.
Also, I don't know how to tell if they have been improperly cleaned, maybe a look at the pictures?
Any help appreciated. Many Thanks
FloridaBill

I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

Gold of this era has a lot of very good fakes the 3 dollar especially.

<< <i>Thanks everyone for your help. The $3 was sent in on the quarterly special, and came back in a Secure Plus holder graded VF45+. The $5, in a regular holder, made an AU53. Thanks again....

There is no "VF45+" grade. Did you mean "XF45+"?
