Ridiculous Paypal Policy and How it Affects Costs

Paypal requires Signature Confirmation for orders over $250.00.
However, if you insure an item for over $200.00, or send an item Registered Mail the item has to be signed for anyway.
I know that Paypal wants to have an electronic copy, but their inelastic mentality regarding this topic is utterly ridiculous because why should the buyer have to pay unnecessary shipping costs. It's bad enough that the topic of S&H is a hotbed for discussion, this just adds more fuel to the fire.
The only case that I had against Paypal I won because I sent the item Registered, and produced a signature. It took a little work, but it was not a huge problem because I have a very cooperative Post Office. It's stuff like that why I bake them brownies every other month.
I would like to hear your input on this,
Greg

The "online viewable" policy is necessary; without it, INR-claims
could take weeks/months to resolve.
IMV, the $250 threshold should be lowered substantially.
A $249.00 item that is misdelivered BUT shows as "delivered" by
USPS DC, will cost the buyer a $249.00 loss. (USPS will investigate
such cases IF the lost item was USPS-insured, but PayPal offers no
buyer-protection against the loss.)
Sig-Con is a worthwhile service.

I am right there with you....maybe not on shipping time, but there could be some things on shipping. For example, when you list the item you note how long handling time you have in the auction. I dont remember the options now. Its like 1-2 days, 3-4 days, 5 days I think. Some things or high priced items need to be sent confirmed or they may lock up funds from your PP at times until delivery shows delivered. In the same system, they could not allow you to give bad shipping stars if the stated ebay handling time, plus a reasonable shipping time 3-4 is met.

well I think that describes about 98% of the Ebay sellers that are still in business. 10.00 shipping charge means for the seller to break even on Shipping they must be able to ship the item for 9.70.
As a buyer , I just look at how much the seller wants for shipping and figure that amount in with my maximum bid. if the shipping charge is 12.00 and the item is worth 25.00 bucks to me I bid 13.00. if I win I really don't care if it costs 15.00 or 1.50 to ship the item to me as long as it arrives safely and undamaged.
Too many whiners and crybabies that can't read TOS or wants to renegotiate the terms of sale after they have won the auction.
The same buyers then cry when Free shipping is offered and wonder why the card they bought shows up in a PWE crumpled and creased. I use new bubble mailers + boxes to insure the item get to the buyer in the same condition it leaves me, but I almost never offer Free shipping (unless I already have it figured in with the starting price).
Do you think that walmarts or any retailer doesn't have their shipping cost (what it costs in shipping to get the item to them) already figured in the final price that they charge you at the checkout.

<< <i>All businesses figure in cost gecko....and should if they want to remain in business. >>
Ever hear of the term "cost of doing business"? Thats where the 2.9% paypal falls under. If I buy card "x" for $200, and sell it on ebay for $350, and my total ebay/paypal fees are $25, then I made a profit of $125. To go ahead and incorporate that paypal fee into my shipping costs is a scumbag, dishonest way to do business. That should be considered part of my overhead and shouldnt be passed off to the customer in a "disguised" manner like that. The buyer already paid for my fees.....you did notice that my profit was $125, correct?
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Before I use to sell the graded for $9 and $2.50 shipping, plus $0.50 each additional. Now, that same card I have to sell for $12 with free shipping, I get about the same, ebay gets more fees, buyer pays more. Before, same card, if a person bought more then one item, which many people will/would, they would have saved $3 over now cost, however with free shipping, a person is less likely to buy multiples.
So end result, higher cost to customer and less sales for seller. I am still going to get what I want for the item. It does not matter where or how I pass my fees to you, I have to remain in business.

You are correct. Keep on charging twice....once in the hammer price, and again with the shipping charges. I'll just charge my customers 1 time, they pay actual shipping costs.
Edited to add: I have sold about $15,000-$20,000 worth of material this year so far on ebay and have come out quite a bit ahead....too bad I dont have the low morals of some of you, or else I might have an extra 2.9% profit!!!
As usual you turn the original statement upside down.
Shane did not say his fees were 25.00.
IIRC it was 10.00 for shipping and he mentioned that he included all his overhead into that charge.
You called him a scum bag over what amounted to 2.00?

I am just trying to explain basic business to you Gecko, this is with everything you buy in life. Cost is figured into everything, no need for childish insults.
In our examples above, we charged the customer the same thing. You just some how don't understand that in a business model you did not make $125. Not unless your whole business model is that card and that one single card alone. That does not describe most businesses I know.
There are many on this list, myself included, that sell for a living Gecko, it is unlikely you want to compare numbers or feedback to show who knows something.

Respect begets respect. And by basically saying that I know nothing about business simply because I dont make my living by doing so is disrespectful. Here are some facts, and I can PROVE them to you....
Fact #1---I have over 770 transactions in just under 5 years on ebay with perfect feedback
Fact #2---My DSR's are 4.9 5.0 5.0, and 4.8
Fact #3---I have well over $15,000 in sales since the 1st of the year on ebay ALONE (perhaps another $10,000+ in private deals)
Just based on the above FACTS, you cannot tell me I know nothing about selling simply because I have a real job that pays real well. Respect begets respect.
