I've had enough! Time to get out of hobby!

Some of you know me, most of you don't, but I WAS a hardcore Mark Brunell collector for ELEVEN years. I never could tell the difference between passion and obsession, but today it all became clear.

I never really thought this day would come, but it has. It's just not much fun any more...I remember the good ole days when I would get excited about every mailday...not recently, not anymore. I don't think it's really any one reason as much as a culmination of numerous things about the hobby and my personal life. I just don't think it's worth the time, effort and money that I put in it - all 11 years - that's time that I can NEVER get back.

I will be auctioning EVERYTHING off (PC along with NON PC) on ebay within the week (1st 100 auctions are FREE now!). I have sent out a couple of email to the last remaining Mark Brunell collectors that I know of. Once I hear back from them I will be posting a thread in the "Buy/Sale" forum here. Check my trade page on my website.

I would like to thank EVERYONE who I've traded with or bought from - it was a pleasure. There are some great folks out there, but in the end all the haters where right. Why am I collecting this scrub who never meant jack to the hobby? What a waste. Have I been drinking too much of my own "jadeROCKing" koolaid. Well it ends here.

Please keep an eye out for my sale thread - I'll be spamming it up in throughout the forum as well.

Thanks again!

imageimage I fall into the category of I don't know you...so...where does the interest in Mark Brunell come from? I love to hear from folks that don't just collect the everyday popular stuff. Tell me if you want to! image

Long story...short version...I live in SF and everyone on the 49ers were too expensive (Jerry Rice and Steve Young), so I decided on the next best lefty who was Brunell. He had just lead the Jags to the playoffs and was cheaper to pick up on ebay. When I started, it was more an "investment", then after 1000 differentc cards it became an obsession, but now it's a passion of mine in the hobby.

In addition, he's a good person. That's about it.

  • haha, I don't know you and you had me going.... I was going to say, if its not fun anymore, its probably because you have everything! I know the feeling... when you have everything you wanted it starts to become boring. I know its an April fool, but I have a feeling that its not as fun as it used to be for you? Just curious....
  • You got me on that one! Toward the end, it didn't seem right, especially after he won his Super Bowl ring with the Saints.
  • i must say that you had me completely fooled.

Actually it's been a "rough" 5 years or so since I peaked at 95% of all cards listed of his in Beckett (3167+/- of 3334 cards). However, I search for side collections like - Trifecta (#1, #8 - his pro jersey # and last #), Quad (#1, #8, #11 - college jersey # and last #), Color variants on patch cards, TTM/IP autos, guest appearance cards, hoarding #/25 or less cards, panels, uncut sheets, etc

All in all, it's just as fun now as when I 1st started EXCEPT there are long droughts when nothing "new" arrives. Each year I get maybe 3-4 cards off the wantlist.

Mark's a fine QB and a good fellow. I liked having him wear the Burgundy and Gold for a while.

Dude- Go have intimate relations with the man or woman of your choice and step away from the intertubes!

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

I did too but didn't run into too many others who felt that way. There were a lot of haters around the DC area during those times. But I felt he was the right guy under Joe Gibbs. I was a fan. Will always like him for picking off Elway and the juggernaut Broncos as a wildcard team and making a run at it.

Yes I check my 4 forums once a day if I can. I just happened to see his post on 3 different sites.

But I'm sure you have a great life outside of CU otherwise you may have over 200000 posts.image

You are unique and in the extreme minority, most Skins fan hated him - just ask any extremeskins.com member...how's the Jason Campbell experiment going in DC?

    Actually, I like Campbell, too.

I hang out more at hailredskins.com's message board. I've been to extremeskins maybe twice. I think they're at war with each other but nobody ever sends me cc's of the memos, so I can't be positive.

I will second that emotion... it seems most equivalent player collections are in baseball for some reason?
