TOO BAD....

they chose/choose not to offer the plus + service as a stand alone service with an added sticker just like CAC does. There are a lot of lower value coins where it would be nice to have the + but are not worth the $65 cost for the deluxe treatment. PCGS has already had one opportunity to see the edge so there would be no reason to have to crack it out. Afterall, once the coin hits the market we all have to make our choices based on the coin in the slab [even sight seen]. The advantage over CAC would be that eye appeal is taken into account.

They need to start somewhere. They will probably add it in the future once they get a feel for being able to keep up with the amount coming in.

I agree with the OP, a blue bean would have been nice, and of course an explanation of what it stands for.
Of course, then you can't create all the new half grades and force all the top registry sets to be regraded.

Its because a major part of the service requires the coin to be scanned, and they can't do it while it is in the holder----------BigE

Thanks BigE, so many people do not read the available information. That has been stated several times here. Cheers, RickO

Do you really care if the coin is scanned if it doesn't get the +? Which do they do first?

    That's what I think too.

It's my understanding the scan happens first, then it gets graded.

Many collectors seem more interested in acquiring the plus grade than having their coin scanned. Perhaps, down the road, PCGS will offer this option to get the price lower and move more coins.

You missed my point, I was talking about lower value coins where a scan is not warranted, but where a + would be value added. If your coin scans, but doesn't bump will you get a holder that shows that?

Bajjer, I know where you are coming from because its too expensive to use on the average collector coin. Its great for people who deal in rarities because the holder guarantees the coin cant be doctored as long as its in a pcgs holder. ---------------------------------BigE

From what I've read the coin would go in a Secure Plus holder which indicates it has been scanned, but would not be plus graded.

In addition, if I am pcgs I sleep better at night knowing that I am guaranteeing a 50K coin in the new holderimage---------BigE
