1985 lincoln w/ unknown surfaces

Question for forum members. What happened to the surfaces on this coin? I pulled it out of circulation (and paid my wife $.05 for it) mostly because I couldn't figure out what would cause this. Rusted dies?

Lincolns from this time frame had a lot of problems related to the coating.
You can see everything from bubbling to pealing to tearing when the coins were first struck.
This isn't really rare and can almost be called the norm for Lincolns from this period.
By the way....your wife is one smart businesswoman

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll pay the four cents for the learning. I just had never seen a coin 25 years old come through circulaton w/ that type of luster and those surfaces. Thanks for all your help (and sarcasm).

Lets face it.....the Zinc Core. is never going to last on any of these post 1982 cents....this is the same material used on boat hulls to take the brunt of the effects of galvanic corrosion ..........because......

It is one of the least Noble of all popular metals......it's job is to corrode before almost all other metals....IMO it has no business being a base for anything other then .....
"Boat ...ZINCS" which btw it is very good at !

    .......ahhhh...that felt good!
