Should a slabbed coin move front to back?

I just received my Bust Dollar purchase in a NGC holder. I notice that when lightly tapping on the face of the slab the coin moves to the front, and when tapping on the back of the slab the coin moves to the back.

Should this happen?

I have had this on both NGC and PCGS too.

Coins also rotate in slabs. Not a big deal.

Yeah, it happens sometimes. It doesn't bother
    me too much.

I have had coins where the top of the coin is
to the front of the slab, and the bottom of the
coin is to the back, or vice versa. This can
usually be corrected by slapping the coin down
flat on the surface of a book.

My advice to you is simple. Stop tapping on the slab and you won't have a problem. image

No doubt, a well circulated 200 year old coin is slightly smaller in diameter than it was when MS.

I'm pretty sure if your slabbed coin can move from front to back that it is a problem. That would be a first for me though. image

The new NGC holders won't allow for any movement. I haven't had this problem in the current generation of PCGS holders. The early generation up through to when NGC started the edge view slab thingy all can move front to back if coaxed by rapping the slab on a table. That is also how you can straighten them back (just rap your slab on a table the way you want the coin to tilt.

  • Maybe that is the Big One!! 10 drops of superglue on the inside to prevent movement! This is an out of the box idea because no one has ever done this before!!!

How do you think coins get up-side-down in a holder ? Do you think they were really sleeping on the job that much? image

That is by far the most abrasive thing that can happen to a coin. In fact, send it of to me and I will dispose of it in the most efficient way possible....
