Struck a double for DDOs,,Are these worth sending in to be graded?
I struck out looking for a 1964-D Type C, but I did find two DDOs. I posted the 1937 find a couple days ago when found, and now when I'm down to the second to the last roll I find this 1943-S DDO.
Any idea what they're worth in such grade, would it be worth sending them in for slabbing?
First find-1937

Second find-1943-S

.....hmmmm, two, eh? i didn't realize how common these were!
I'm a little surprised at what can be found in what can be bought as 90%.
Any thoughts on price above melt?
A good reference for these, even though it's out of date is the book by Wexler and Flynn titled "The Best of the Washington Quarter Doubled Dies." It should be available online from one of the larger Numismatic book dealers or from Ken Potter.

I don't think either of those needs to be in a slab. The attribution is clear to anyone who would be interested in obtaining an example, and were you to sell them I don't feel that you would recover the costs of certification compared to simply selling them raw. A couple of years ago I submitted a small group of low-grade DDO quarters to PCGS and when all was said and done I barely covered the fees (really, the fees were covered by one F-15 1943-S, the rest of the group graded G/VG and I would have lost money on them).
