Pics of Potential MS68 Wash's
I was curious as to forum members that believe they have MS67 Wash's that are strong candidates for upgrading to MS68 along with their pics of the same coin(s). I'm including one and was hoping to get some objective opinions on it. Even fractional opinions would be great. As an example it looks like a MS67.3 or conversely even if in your opinion it looks more like a MS66 .

Fractional grades are out of the question.
Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
<< <i>Here is a 67 witha CAC sticker in an old fattie holder from comparison. I think this is a 68/67. MJ
I agree that the hits on the reverse keep it from making a full 68.
Will note that grading from images does not show strike quality very well even with the bast of images and that is a consideration in the higest grades.
In any case that is defiantly a keeper!
Thanks for your input! With any luck your wrong on this one but with your experience and eye for these coins in particular your probable right.
I agree and I will look forward to the story which I hope will be coming soon!
Why is the toning factor so important and or even a must? Why is there not more white 68's?
<< <i>I just got the grade back on this. PCGS MS68 this. Picture sucks, i need to take another one.
Beautiful coin, but what's going on with the right wing?

its the picture, there is so much luster on this piece it looks like a proof, i had to angle the coin to get a good shot of the coin, the feather detail is all there though.
<< <i>Wow! to get a MS67 on a 55 is remarkable ... to get a MS68 for that same 55 I'm speechless! Congratulations!!! >>
you want to know what holder it was in originally?
wait for it.
<< <i>I would have guessed NGC but never in a million years that it was once a MS64. That's incredible! >>
NGC was notorious for being terrible at grading quarters.
Looks like pcgs will have to update the population. since its a 1/0 now
If toning is part of PCGS normal criterion to obtain a 68 status or if your chances are increased that suggests that collectors of past that were less careful in storing their coins have been rewarded or at least their inheritors.

Yes, indeed.
Pays to look through the routine stuff at the shows.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
<< <i>I need the full pic of that 1955 ngc ms64 before I believe it crossed to a ms68. sorry >>
Sorry I cracked it out before I took a picture. I didn't think it would ms68 since I put min grade of 67

Shouldnt be that hard to believe it. Look how clean it is
<< <i>I think at this point you're going to have to prove that 1955 Washie graded MS68 by PCGS. I just don't see it and there is way too many disturbances on the surface of that coin for that grade.
yes, we the people need proof I say! At least the washie guys
What's the pcgs ms68 cert. number please, then I will leave you alone.
it's just a huge stretch to find out it was in a NGC MS64 holder -
thats a 4 point jump in grade in uncirculated grades between the two top TPG's ; thats almost too hard to believe
<< <i>I don't have a problem with it grading ms68 @ PCGS ....

The irony is that if it was a PCGS 64 and upgraded to a NGC 68 it would be more believeable around these parts
Just sayin.
By the way, I find it hard to believe also , but s&%t happens I guess. MJ

I might have a picture I can post, I'm in the movies right now so I'll do it later
Thanks! I'm not happy with a lot of the pics but the coin in hand is what counts.

I'm curious about why you would put a minimum grade on a raw coin. If the coin came back 66 and you felt it was better than that you could just crack it.

Thats a great point. Personally I would have been happy, or at least expected. with a MS66. Anything better would have been a wonderful bonus.
PCGS, seeing it for what it truly is awarded an the MS68 grade.
That's my theory.

It used to be that once the order was shipped out, the registry pops would update. The Online Pops don't update until early Sunday morning.
The name is LEE!
<< <i>my good friend Bill at CAC thinks its a 68
This is the most beautiful Washington quarter I have ever seen
<< <i>Who would cross a coin (leave out any recently minted coin), get a PCGS 68 from an NGC 64, and crack it for an album (if it's true, I guess we know who would)? I certainly wouldn't. Not casting stones, but as Lee pointed out, I see no MS68's for '55. >>
Perhaps my reading comprehension is off today, didn't he crack it from the NGC MS64 holder (and possibly not getting a photo of it within that slab...) and get it raw into a PCGS MS68 holder where it is still today?
Am I (now) reading it was placed in a PCGS slab and then cracked out?

I would have graded this as a MS-67. But a really nice MS-67. Couple of tics on eagles wingspan and almost unnoticeable luster graze on the dreaded right side of the obverse keep it out of MS-68 in my view.
By the way, the die crack in Washington's head is an uber common crack and it would surprise me greatly if the grader(s) thought that it was a grade limiting scratch.
