Is this a good price? I just picked up two of them. Link.

Yup...decent price...these 5 ozers always demand a premium. I like the proof version, but I've never been able to figure out on how to buy them directly from the Mexican Mint. image

  • I just got one in the mail on Saturday, picked it up when it was $110. I must say I'm very pleased with it, has a substantial look and feel about it. Also got two 2oz and one 1oz. in the same order. BTW all but the 1oz. were in capsules. All were UNC, the proofs look beautiful but, I can't bring myself to pay almost double the price. I wish the Mexican Mint had direct sales, that might bring the prices down a bit.

These are really cool. I really want to get the 1 kg version. Already have the 5 oz-1/20th oz 7-coin set.

The 1 kg version is certainly worth having. They are larger in diameter and flatter than most kilo coins, thus giving more room for the exquisitely beautiful design. Get it before silver takes off!

How do these 5 oz coins compare in size to the 5oz national park bullion coins that the mint will start producing this year?

  • I own 1oz, 5oz, and 1 kg Mexican silver coins. The 5oz Libertad is pretty cool, but last year's 1kg Aztec was awesome.

However, now that I have the 5oz Libertad in uncirc and proof, I see no need to collect them further. Last year I purchased a 5oz silver Panda, that was cool. Depending on the design, I may purchase more of these Pandas in the future.

As for the 5oz U.S. coin, judging from the complaints from the mint, it won't be very pretty, though I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I saw a kilo on Ebay but DAMN! Even with bing,(which brings it cheaper than Apmex) it's STILL like $28 an ounce. It looks VERY nice but idk, I'd have to be drinking to hit the buy button.

Wow, that was quick.... they were asking $949. A little too rich for my tastes; there's about $550 worth of silver in there.

Ya, I really like the Libertads even more in hand and am going to start buying the kilos each year too.
Also thinking about the 2009 Aztec kilo. Not sure if its worth the premium?

Never seen the Aztec kilo but I own a 2oz and it is the most detailed coin I ever seen in my short numismatic experience.
I can't imagine what they are able to do with a kilo round!!image

Guess I'm in the minority on that newer style Libertad design. I think it's awful. Disney tinkerbell flying drunk? Vandalized tombstone? And the reverse is only slightly less ugly than the obverse.

Seriously, no offense--I know I don't collect the prettiest stuff. But wow.

    Here's the classic design:

I like the 5 ounce libertad, I just bought a 2008 for $130.00 delivered minus bing $13.00 and ebay bucks $2.65 so about $117.00 delivered.
