Lets put our salaries in perspective.

Interesting here. Actually, a little bit depressing.

    Interesting link. Thanks

We have to work all those years to make one year's salary for those sports stars listed because quite frankly, no one cares about us peons. We have become a nation obsessed with sports and pay the ticket prices and watch the television games to afford players and coaches these salaries.

So while some of us struggle to pay the mortgage and feed the kids, one of these illiterate goons will be robbed of $200K in cash he left in his hotel room.

Welcome to life....no one said it would be fair.

yea, but at least our manufacturing base in the US is solid, jobs are plentiful, and we're not borrowing money and buying products and oil from socialist/communist countries...so we can easily afford to pay our sports stars outrageous salaries such as this.

Seriously, though. I could not even buy tickets to a Cubs game this year for the family since the prices skyrocketed. Even before the
"Total Convenience Fee for 4 seats (includes 12% amusement tax and 9% sales tax)", the price for 4 tickets was over $200 for the "regular people" section. I did not even want to proceed to the next screen to see what the Ticketmaster order and processing fee was.

Oh, and did I mention that game was against the Pirates?

I think there is another topic on this, so I will leave this one alone.

Come on people, can't you see right through this? It's just an easy way for ESPN to gather demographic information from people going to their website. It's a good thing that I make the same amount of money as Peppers, because I know I only have to work 16 games this next year.

Mister Peppers is paid the same for making a half sack as I make in a year.

That was $75,000. I misread it. He makes the same for 1/20th of a sack that I make in a year.

But that is putting the salaries in perspective like the OP stated. The government spends too much, sports teams spend too much, and consumers spend too much such as with credit card debt and buying homes they cannot afford - it's all interelated.

Babe Ruth was worth $80,000 a year - he was an icon. Michael Jordan was worth the money. But Julius Peppers being paid 91 million?...I mean are they kidding me?...What's next? It's pathetically ridiculous and it's an illustration of our society which has gotten way out of control with spending.

In a free market every one earns what they are worth

Julius Peppers is a better pass rusher than I am, so he earns more money. I feel fortunate to still earn thousands of dollars despite so many fewer sacks

He's not worth it, he's not even close to being worth it...the NFL like the government feels they have a license to print money...the NFL milks the fans and the government milks the taxpayers...and it just keeps getting worse.

I think I'm gonna join the NFL "tea party" LOL

Peppers is a very talented player, but his less than stellar work ethic calls into question the wisdom of this investment by the Bears, especially with such a large part of the salary guaranteed money.

The only way to avoid paying income taxes is to drop out of the workforce. The only way to avoid paying property taxes is to be homeless. To not support the NFL requires a lot smaller hardship.

If the NFL or the Chicago Bears pay employees more money than they help generate, they will go out of business. So long as the customers hand over so much of their money that the league feels as if it is virtually printing money, the employees that help generate the business are absolutely worth their salaries

My dad was a finance manager of a car dealership in the late 70's and early 80's. One of the cars he financed was for an All-Pro football player that all of you would know immediately. The car was bought in the prime of this player's career. It was repoed in less than a year.
