Best way to maximize sale of #1 All Time PSA Registry Set

What would be the best way/avenue for maximizing the sale of a #1 All Time PSA Registry set?

I don't know if there is any protocol about mentioning the set without having it already on the Registry Board, so I will keep the set anonymnous unless told otherwise (relative newbie on these boards)

The set us a golf set having less than 20 cards and issued 100+ years ago.

Do I sell individually, as the complete set, Ebay, Boards, Auction house.

I've never had a set on the Registry, let alone one that appears to be #1.

There has to be interest and if there is then list them as auctions on eBay and let the others bid them up.

If there is no interest and you don't have to sell, perhaps wait until there is some?

Registry sets can be fun and are not a complete waste of money, but competing in them is. I used to pay a lot for low pops and learned my lesson. Now I collect what I like and do not compete.

So, if there are people competing with you, list them as an auction. If not and you have to sell, then you may have to just slel them for whatever you can get. Pick out players which are in player sets and see if anybody needs upgrades...if they do and there is interest, auction off those cards...

Decide how much the set is worth to you, put it on ebay starting at that price. Seems like a no lose approach

The fact that the set would be the #1 All Time on the registry is irrelevant if it isn't registered.

I would post it on ebay explaining it would be the #1 on the registry. Do a buy it now with a best offer option. Egos get involved, and you may get enough money that way.

I understand that. I just received my grades yesterday. I entered certs. and came out with the highest set rating ever. But i think I need to wait until Monday to have PSA list it on the site???

I'm guessing that this is a British issued set. I would also guess that there are less than 10 sets on the registry. The set is going to have limited appeal, and those who would be potential buyers aren't going to care if it's ranked #1 on the "registry", because most people who collect these types of issues don't have their cards graded, or care about the registry. In fact, I'd bet whoever buys them, will likely crack them out of the PSA slab.

That's what I was thinking, and I hate to be the one to burst your Bubble, but limited appeal= You aren't retiring to the Bahamas any time soon. Just because its a 100 year old set with the #1 Ranking doesn't mean a thing if you don't have two people bidding against each other. I have 80-90 year old sets that would be #1 on the Registry with PSA GEM MINT 10's in them that aren't worth the grading fees.

Don't worry about any bubbles here. I know this is not '52 Topps or anything. I'm thinking the set is probably worth $3000 - $4000.

I have seen a few cards that have sold recently on ebay - PSA 7 - $260
Another card in PSA 4 sold for $350 and I have the card in 6.5

I do have 2 of the 1/1's

Just my $.02, but I would think that anyone collecting a 'niche' set like that already has a lot of the cards and won't need a complete set. Personally, I'd poke around the registry and see if any of the top dogs need what you have, then list the rest.

1901 Ogdens Ltd. Guinea Gold Golf - I Base

Looks like there is an ok following with 6 registered PSA sets. Not a lot of eBay sales on these, I don't have VCP, so I can't check that either. The Tom Morris looks to be "the" card in the set.

That is the set. I'm thinking that I might offer the complete set initially with a buy it now/best offer, and eventually individually if that doesn't work. I did get the set at a very reasonable price so it shouldn't be a difficult sell.

This sounds like the way to go. It may also help you to gauge how much interest is in the set.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think they would crack cards out? I understand people not taking the time/money to get raw cards graded, but if they already are graded and attain a slightly more concrete market value along with greater protection, why bother cracking?

because a certain portion of collectors don't believe in grading, don't believe it adds value, or don't care about the value it adds. They prefer flipping thru pages in an album and seeing all the cards laid out and being able to see them all at once, and not slab by slab.
